The goal of the book is to show how fathers can use the divorce to improve their relationship with their kids. David Knox, a divorced father of two, presents a book designed to show fathers how to replace the fear of losing their children with insightful knowledge of what the children may be experiencing during the divorce and offers specific suggestions on maintaining and improving relations with them. The father-child relationship cannot only survive but also triumph over divorce through conscious and deliberate planning and execution.

As a divorced father of two children, I am emotionally committed to help other noncustodial divorced fathers maintain a good relationship with their children in spite of the divorce they are experiencing. Children, fathers, ex-spouses, and society all benefit when the connection between dads and their children are maintained.
In addition to ten chapters devoted specifically to the concerns of divorced dads, there are two unique chapters: Chapter 10 "For the New Partner- By the New Partner" is addressed to the new woman in dad's life. Chapter 11 "Gay Dads" focuses on the less visible dad who has the same goal as other dads- to maintain a good relationship with his children.
Finally, the Appendices include a sample "Legal Specification of Visitation Rights" agreement that divorced dads should include in the divorce decree they sign which protects their access to their children and a state by state list of domestic attorneys, custody evaluators, and mediators for professional help. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Fantastic. I bought it for my partner (I read it first). It has helped me understand his position and his behaviour towards me and the children has been excellent since. This book helps you focus on the things that really matter e.g. the children and you (the man) in a really readable and unpatronising way. My ex. never read any self help books before but he has read this and it was worth it - for him and the children. At such a difficult time this book provides a true survival strategy for the long term when you can't even think past tomorrow. Good for men and women and children.

The possibility of divorce is always on the minds of married couples as well as the state of the relationship between the parents and children. Knox discusses the before, during, and after of the divorce process and how it especially affects the father-child relationship. Can a father do too much? not enough? what if the mother is uncooperative? Knox does a splendid job on this book filled with solid information for the straight or gay dad, the children, and the new partner.
