The Divine Office is time honoured and tested method of prayer that offers a thorough grounding in Catholic worship outside the mass. The 'breviary' as it is known is prayed throughout the world and, once mastered, you have the assurance that your prayer is part of the official (Roman Catholic) church's glory and praise to God.
There are three volumes of the Divine Office. Volume One (this one) covers Advent and Christmas tide. Volume Two covers Lent, Holy Week and Eastertide. Volume Three covers Ordinary Time.
Volume one is where you begin and this offers a ruberical (the red coloured instruction), guide to praying the Office.
Included also are many writings from different saints as well as the official church calander.
As with all worthwhile prayer, The Divine Office takes time, but with faithful dedication it will become a very rewarding experience.

The Divine Office is an excellent and satisfying way of prayer. Some may say it is difficult to understand but you can pick it up fairly easily if you do it regularly and there is plenty of information within the breviary and also online to guide you. It is a fulfilling experience to pray in a way that is personally relevant but also to know that you are praying along with millions of others too in the same way.

Having used these books for the year or so I find them useful. If you are discerning or just need some structure in your prayer life these are perfect.
