Format: Paperback
This is a rather wonderful book of the most beautiful prose interspersed with poetry and exerpts from other books thrown in, for good measure!
It is a sort of pigrimage but has that unique quality about it that it enfolds you in the journeying and cannot be read quickly.
It is a book to savour.

This book is a must for anyone contemplating a literary or spiritual pilgrimage. Ronald Blythe's chapter on George Fox and the Quakers went with me as I explored the Pendle Hill region of Lancashire, and enriched my vision of the glorious landscapes. Blythe's devoted erudition delivers us landscape as history, and history as evidence of God's presence.
I next turned to the longer section tracing the life and achievements of the poet George Herbert. And I must say I cannot believe a finer fifty pages has ever been written on him. Ronald Blythe is absolutely wonderful on the man and the poetry, demonstrating the subtle links between his moral and his artistic excellence. Blythe's descriptions of places are finely rendered, with an eye for telling detail and aptly poetic turns of phrase.
I am heading now for the chapter on Langland, Masefield and the Malverns - and cannot wait...

Not quite what I was expecting and a bit weird really but interesting all the same. Quite heavy going. I thought the photographs would be better to be honest. I didn't feel the reviews I read matched the book.
