Product Description

Book Description

An exquisitely written and fascinating inspirational guide to beauty, creativity and the imagination.

Product Description

In this eagerly awaited follow-up to his international bestsellers Anam Cara and Eternal Echoes, John O'Donohue turns his attention to the subject of beauty - the divine beauty that calls the imagination and awakens all that is noble in the human heart.

In these uncertain times of global conflict and crisis, we are riven with anxiety; our trust in the future has lost its innocence, for we know now that anything can happen from one second to the next. In such an unsheltered world, it may sound naive to suggest that this might be the moment to invoke and awaken beauty, yet this is exactly the claim that this book seeks to explore.

DIVINE BEAUTY is a gentle but urgent call to awaken. O'Donohue opens our eyes, hearts and minds to the wonder of our own relationship with beauty. Rather than 'covering' this theme, he uncovers it, exposing the infinity and mystery of its breadth. His words return us home to the dignity of silence, the profundity of stillness, the power of thought and perception, and the eternal grace and generosity of beauty's presence. In this masterful and revelatory work, O'Donohue encourages our greater intimacy with beauty, and celebrates it for what it really is: a homecoming of the human spirit.

As he focuses on the classical, medieval and Celtic traditions, on art, music, literature, nature and language, O'Donohue reveals how beauty's invisible embrace invites us towards new heights of passion and creativity.

DIVINE BEAUTY is an exquisite treasury of Forms of the Beautiful. Its surface employs narrative, image, anecdote and myth, while into the silence of its subtext are sown seeds of reflection that gradually blossom in the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend this for anyone who appreciates Beauty!!!, 1 Feb 2004

This is the first book by John O'Donohue that I am reading. I am still not finished but it has touched my soul already!. John has the capacity to transform my eyes and my mind to look at the world around me in such a way that I can see the stunning beauty that is designed into our world which is only waiting to be appreciated and I believe now that the more you are touched by the beauty the more enhanced it gets!!!

His book makes me feel that the universe has a way of looking at itself in self admiration and I think John O'Donohue is some kind of a mirror reflecting that in his book.

READ IT!!! I am sure I will be reading it many times over and so will you.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Oasis in the Desert!, 25 Feb 2010

This review is from: Divine Beauty: The Invisible Embrace (Paperback)
John O'Donohue's profound and beautifully-published writings are such a collection of lived, experienced and hope-enhancing treasures. 'Divine Beauty' offers a welcoming tapestry of 'the beautiful' in life - grounded in everyday experience yet calling his readers to share in the vision of the Divine in all. There's nothing wishy-washy about his work either - a fantastic book to read cover-to-cover, or dip in and out of - and thus find a true companion. Wonderful stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent thoughts, 20 Dec 2010
This review is from: Divine Beauty: The Invisible Embrace (Paperback)
I like the way this book combines wonderful writing and expresses beautiful thoughts, but is in a format that can be put down and picked up again with no trouble. Each section can stand on it's own.
I have found reading this book has opened up new ideas to beauty and how it is expressed and seen. I love the way the celtic ideas and beliefs have so easily been translated to our time.
If you like beautifully written spiritual books that you do not have to read all the way through in one go to understand, then this is the book for you.
