Product Description

This is the story of one Naval career in two very distinct parts. The first is a tale of an ordinary seaman, his life above and below decks, through one of the Royal Navy's most glorious and desperate episodes - pre-war Empire and wartime perils. The second is an account of post-war diving, exciting and challenging, using new technology and innovation. This books provides a unique insight into a Naval era long past.

I had the pleasure of knowing Harry and Mrs Wardle when I worked as a Diver for Strongwork Diving International out of their North Baddesley, Southampton, base. Although the 'Big Boss', he was "Harry" to each and every one of us and always a total gentleman. This fascinating book takes the reader from his entry into the Royal Navy and his rise through the ranks. A thoroughly recommended read.

It remains a great shame that his later manuscript, relating to his 'second career' as Managing Director of Strongwork Diving International, the largest (British) diving company in the UK in its time, at the pioneering forefront in the opening days of the North Sea, was not published before Harry's death a few years ago. Heres hoping the manuscript eventually makes it to print.
