Book Description

3 Mar 2008
Didn't anyone tell you that divas don't knit? Knit-one... Jo Mackenzie needs a new start and jumps at the chance to take over her grandmother's wool shop in a small seaside town. Purl-one... But it's not going to be easy with two young sons to cope with, an A-list actress moving into the local mansion and a knitting group addicted to cake. Stitch and Bitch! Gil McNeil's funny and uplifting novel turns prejudices and assumptions upside down, telling it how it really is in the world of knit-one, purl-one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring. 1 April 2007
Format:Hardcover
I loved this book. It has definitely inspired me to start knitting again and it is an excellent story in it's own right. I am already looking forward to the sequel.

It follows the young widowed mother Jo in her adventures of moving to a seaside town, revamping her grandmother's wool shop, dealing with her difficult mother, boisterous children and mixing with the fringes of the glitterati as well as tentatively ressurecting her love life. I would recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for a rainy Sunday afternoon. 24 Mar 2008
Format:Paperback
I very much enjoyed this book. Similar to the likes of the late Melissa Nathan in comedic value. The relationship between Jo and her boys is refreshing and provides 'laugh out loud' moments. I was a little dubious at the arrival of the A-List celebrity in such a small location, however, it did provide evidence of the loyalty Jo has for people she is fond of. This left me feeling rather sad of the circumstances of Jo and her husbands relationship.

I really loved the other characters. An amazing Gran (as they all are!), a set in her ways mohair enthusiast, a fiesty Italian and an avid strip poker news caster!

I have read many reviews that I didn't agree with, so I hope if you like Sharon Owens, Melissa Nathan or the antics of energetic small children in a seaside town you will enjoy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun yarn 13 July 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this novel. There were some laugh-out-loud moments and, as a knitter and mother living in a seaside town myself, much to relate to.

Great to take on holiday, especially if you are off to a small British holiday resort. If you like Katie Fforde etc then you will probably appreciate this.
