4.0 out of 5 stars Shakespeare it isn't! 25 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Puerile, expletive ridden, adolescent toilet humor of the basest kind. Not sure if it's a sad reflection on myself or the author that I laughed so hard I thought I'd ruptured a vital organ. My mother used to tell me that swearing wasn't big and it wasn't clever (like two of the characters in this book) but in the right context it can be bloody funny. Mr Wilkinson definitely has a way with words... similar to the way long term prisoners have with new inmates when asking them to pick up the soap.

This is a collection of short stories that is not only very funny despite it's vulgarity but because of it. The more astute reader will soon realise that there is in fact some very clever writing here when you look below the surface, which given Dean Wilkinson's credible and experienced writing background in books, games and television is not surprising.

As I said, Shakespeare it isn't... but I'm sure Henry IV and Macbeth would have been markedly different if the bard had read these tales beforehand. If you have the energy for a four hour long snigger punctuated with bouts of rib cracking, hernia inducing laughter then I heartily recommend it.

Disturbing Bedtime Tales is very funny. Really, really, really funny. And very dark too. The author has delved into some pretty strange places when he was writing this and he's come up smelling of roses... I laughed out loud quite a few times and sniggered all the way through... not a good idea when you're sitting on the train! The Angels of the Garden Shed and The Chronic Arsetronaut are my faves. Heartily recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing Bedtime Tales For Very Bad People 19 Aug 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Disturbing Bedtime Tales (For Very Bad People)
Dark and twisted, comedic surrealism. From the story of Brasnips The Pisswitch who terrorises a village by slashing on it's vegetable yield, to the fable of The Chronic Arsestronaut, the first sexist man in outer space. These fragmented parables will leave you wide eyed and wondering if there really is a God.
The Liar The Witch & The Wardrobe, The Angels Of The Garden Shed and Wee Willy Knicker Sniffer are the cautionary tales the Brothers Grimm nearly wrote but thought better of it, and the ideas Hans Christian Andersen dismissed as the onset of madness.
Enjoy. And unpleasant dreams.
