5.0 out of 5 stars A REVIEW OF CHRISTOPHER FOWLERS DISTURBIA, 11 Jan 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Disturbia (Paperback)
If you like fast paced heart racing books then dont miss this gem from one the best horror-suspense authors of the 90's. Disturbia will grip you and drag you mercilessly through the streets of modern London on a realtime 10 hour journey from darkness to dawn. The city itself becomes a main protaganist as it both bears down and cleverly evades the central character who unwillingly embarks on a terrible journey to complete a set number of tasks in a grime treasure hunt with his life as a prize. A horrible game of cat and mouse develops which explores the relationships within the class structure, the old boy network and the access to knowledge. You will never be quite sure whos calling the shots and you will be forced to live the mentally and physically exhausting urban nightmare with the central character. This book is well worth reading but not if your planning to do something in the next few hours because you wont be able to put it down! If you enjoy Fowlers latest novel work back through his other novels especially Psychoville and the Red Bride with curiously familiar points of reference from recent advertising campaigns to the shopping mall experience, all of course from the dark perspective. Forget Stephen King-all hail Christopher Fowler the new dark master of suspense.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as ..... but still fun, 7 Sep 2011
This review is from: Disturbia (Paperback)
Did not excite me as much as Spanky or the marvellous Psychoville . I enjoyed the london details and trying to work out the puzzles but found it at time more boys own adventure than horror . Maybe I just didnot take to either Vince or Sebastian and so did not care about their fate . Now Pamela was a great energetic girl and I would have liked her to have been given many more pages . Yes this was fun , but just as Vince never seemed moved by all of this neither did I . The cover of my book shows a handsome man with a bare chest , that did not seem to be the Vince of the story either .Still worth reading inside of tv .

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but let down with a weak ending, 18 Sep 2000
By
This review is from: Disturbia (Paperback)
This is a fine book, don't get me wrong. The prose is tight and atmospheric; the plot is nice in terms of twists and the characters are well developed (if a little stereotyped). What lets the book down is its ending. Its trite, poorly thought through and doesn't tally with the development of the characters. I guess the message is that everyone is corruptible, regardless of class, wealth or political leaning. However, I was left feeling a little cold. Will I read more Fowler? yes.
