This book was purchased prior to a family holiday. There are useful street maps of some of the most popular Lake District town centres, such as Kendal and Keswick and suggestions for trips whether by foot, cycle or car.Anyone not familar with the area would find it a handy guide, including foreign visitors. Not bad value for money.

As trusty as always, this addition to the Lonely Planet series proved it's worth both in planning ahead of our holiday and during our week in the Lakes.
The walking guides were accurate and easy to navigate, the food choices spot on and accomodation selections extremely helpful.

Accurate information, useful guide to walks in the different regions of the Lakes. Packed with handy suggestions for places to eat and highlights around the various lakes and walks.
Only criticism is that some of the services (eg public transport) detailed don't actually run in the winter/low season and no alternative offered.

As with all Lonely Planet guides, there is a layout and information expectation. My husband and I took this with us on honeymoon and found we were able to use it quite well to plan our days. Maybe at times the maps lacked some detail and some of the places were more difficult to find than was implied, but it was useful on the whole.

Really useful guide to a vast area. Really helped us make the most of our few days in the Lake District. Worth the money for the time and effort saving it provides.
