Unfortunately this adapter doesn't work and I only require it to work with the HP Envy 13 that it is specifically intended to work with.
If I connect my Envy laptop via HDMI cable to a monitor with HDMI input it works fine.
Connecting to a VGA input using the adapter just doesn't work!
I notice that there is almost a 50/50 split between reviews that find the adapter very good and those were it just doesn't work.
I'm wondering if there is a very high rate of failed devices coming out of the factory.
If I could I'd rate it minus 5 stars.

With HP Envy 14 it works well.
I'd rather not need to have to buy this product but the notebook doesn't have VGA port and we need to connect with projectors....

The above review that says this product does not work was quite right. I purchased it in hope but on plugging it in I could see the opening Windows boot sequence on the external monitor but as soon as I reached the login stage it went blank. I tried the lowest resolution possible to no avail. I then contacted the seller for technical help - there being no documentation with the unit - only to be told it was not their problem and to contact Amazon for a refund. Which I will now do. DO NOT risk buying this item.

I have an Acer Iconia A500 tablet and bought this to enable me to link it to a projector for Powerpoint presentations. I took the HP convertor out of the box, plugged it into my tablet, used the VGA lead from my projector and it immediately found the projector and the image for the tablet front page appeared on the screen, no problem. very simple.
