This explosive album from the McDermott's 2 Hours and the Levellers collaboration possesses a unique quality and power, with songs such as 'Tod The Ranter' and 'Summer Song'.

This album explores the lighter side of the band, though we discover a more troubled harsher reality of social ills. Here they contemplate life, love and death with humour and well-composed songs. 'Watering the Wine' is a particularly good toe tapping song, with soul and enthusiasm.

'Bloody Sunday' recounts the events of January 1972 in Derry, where 13 lives were taken when troops opened fire on a group of civil rights protesters. This amazingly powerful and atmospheric song, sung honesty and with such compassion, has spirit and pays tribute to those who were killed. A rich tapestry this album is warm and lively but with haunting reflections of the past. they are the essence of Ireland, a little difficult to get into but well worth a listen!

This must be the finest of the three McDermotts v Levellers albums so far released. The lyrics read like real poetry. The tunes have the usual Irish instrumental base, with folk-rock rhythms, but full of all kinds of European references. It's a rich, dark contemporary protest album, where Nick Burbridge (the songwriter) deals with subjects ranging from the murder of Carlo Giuliani at the G8 summit to the cruel realities of child abuse. Not for the fainhearted, but a more honest and powerful record you'll be hard to find.

If you have not come across McDermott's 2 Hours before - this is a good album to start with. Just so refreshingly different in style, and the fiddle-playing is amazing. They cover a broad range of topics, but this album does not have the political messages which crop up in later songs. Give it a try - you may become hooked!
