3.0 out of 5 stars A quick read 26 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There are a few hidden extras in the book that you might not find in other books.
It has a lot of practical hints alot of which I would regard as common sense.

1.0 out of 5 stars Honestly... Not Very Helpful; Mostly Common Sense 16 Feb 2013
By Scott S. Lynde - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Contrary to the title of this book, no "magic" was unlocked by reading this book -- save for one decent tip on how to get the high score on Buzz Lightyear. The rest of the tips were basically general knowledge and common sense, and most of the tips in the book aren't even specific to Walt Disney World -- they are general travel tips. For example:
Tip 11: "If you're booking something at the last minute, check those 'last minute deals' websites..."
Tip 27: "Pack as much as you possibly can in your carry-on . This will save on luggage fees."
Tip 57: "Take snacks and as much water as you can carry into the park with you. You'll save lots of money this way."
Tip 158: "Don't forget the sunscreen!..."
Tip 159: "Buy the kids swim shirts and maybe pick them up for the grown-ups, too..."
Tip 183: "If you're puchasing a new camera for the trip, make sure you read the manual..."

For the tips that are specific to Walt Disney World, they are mostly common sense:
Tip 75: "Make a list of the key attractions you'd like to visit and plan your strategy in advance to get the most out of your day..."
Tip 99: "Try to ride the most popular attractions like Splash Mountain...early or late in the day to minimize your wait times."
Tip 112: "The Epcot tip board is located in the central hub of Innoventions. Check it out to see wait times for the popular attractions."
Tip 125: "The park tip board [for Animal Kingdom] is located on Discovery Island as you cross from the Oasis on the right. Use it to see wait times and ride closures."
Tip 151: [At Hollywood Studios] "Don't miss the Beauty and the Beast show!..."
Tip 165: [At the water parks] "If you're bringing your lunch, there are covered pavilion areas with picnic tables..."
Tip 172: [At the water parks] "Unless your younger (10 and under) kids are great swimmers, don't leave them unattended in the wave pools..."

If you've never traveled (anywhere) before, then you might find some valuable information in the book. The writing is clear and easy to read, even if the book is a bit thin (201 "tips" and pictures across 86 pages). And, at less than $10, it is not expensive.

(Note: The photos are black and white and are a bit grainy, so they won't offer a good view of what to expect in the parks.)

If you've traveled anywhere before, don't bother with this book. A far better option (in fact, THE best option) to prepare for a Walt Disney World vacation would be the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World."

If you are interested in learning more about the "magic" of Walt Disney World, try "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World" by Susan Veness.

1.0 out of 5 stars spend your money elsewhere 17 Feb 2013
By Alison Boyle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book does have a few good tips, but for the money, you are MUCH better off purchasing a more in-depth book, like the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. For a few dollars more you get a TONS more information and reviews.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misinformation, Waste of Money 25 Jan 2013
By I. Noraas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I buy and read a lot of Disney guide books, this one is absurd. His very first tip is incorrect. In it he states that you can make dining reservations 90 days in advance, this is wrong, you can make them 180 days in advance (plus 10 if you are staying on site). Mentions that there are limited on-site options for families of 5 without ever mentioning any of the alternatives to a standard quad occupancy room, villas, cabins, suites...etc. He uses 5 of his 201 tips to extol the virtues of buying a personal misting fan to deal with the heat.
I appreciate his enthusiasm for the parks but this book comes across as tips for his own personal trip as opposed to great insider secrets. I'm just mad I wasted my money on this.
