Product Overview

Play as Mickey Mouse as he infiltrates the Castle of Illusion on a quest to put an end to the evil witch Mizrabel’s diabolical intentions.

Players will be taken on an all-new adventure made specifically for the Nintendo 3DS where, “Reality Is What You Paint Of It.”

Created by critically acclaimed video game developer DreamRift, under the direction of Disney Interactive’s Junction Point, “Disney Epic Mickey: Power Of Illusion” furthers the Wasteland saga by taking players on a completely new story and adventure.

Paying tribute to the classic Sega Genesis title “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse,” “Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion” focuses on the fabled Castle of Illusion, which has fallen into Wasteland, an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions – and now forgotten video games.  The evil witch Mizrabel, villainess from the classic “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse,” finds herself an unwilling inhabitant of Wasteland, and unleashes a plot to escape using the Castle of Illusion to imprison and drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons.

Players will take on the role of Mickey Mouse as he utilizes his magical brush to wield paint and thinner to confront Mizrabel and save the Toons.

 Product Features

“Disney Epic Mickey: Power Of Illusion” offers a special drawing and painting function that will allow players to create an interactive world by using the stylus to draw objects in the bottom screen that magically transform into classic Disney-style 2D illustrations. Utilizing the game’s unparalleled dual screen integration, players will then move their creations to the top screen where they are further transformed into beautiful, fully realized objects that pop off the screen in stunning 3D.

Players will utilize the core “Disney Epic Mickey” gameplay mechanic of paint and thinner while playing as Mickey Mouse in an attempt to save classic Disney Toon characters.

Players will engage in epic boss battles with familiar Disney villains using attacks involving the power of illusions to surprise players.

Players will adventure through game levels based on animated Disney films such as “Peter Pan” and “Aladdin,” as well as interact with beloved Disney characters.

In between adventures, players can develop their own fortress by taking a small fort and expanding it into a thriving castle.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I first became interested in Epic Mickey: Power Of Illusion after seeing screenshots earlier in the year. I just loved the graphical style and it immediately reminded me of Mickey Mouse: Castle Of Illusion on the Mega Drive, to which this game is a sequel to, of sorts. Now, I could never understand the amount of love for Castle Of Illusion....nice graphics asides, it was one of the most linear, simplistic and easy to complete games ever made and if I remember correctly I sailed through it on either my first or second go with the difficulty cranked right up to 'hard' in about half an hour. Yet it's fondly remembered as a classic.

Fast forward to 2012. Epic Mickey began it's life on Wii, and whilst it didn't set the gaming world alight, it had an excellent storyline, atmosphere and art style that reinvigorated many people's interest in Disney's most famous mouse again. This year, we have the just released sequel for main consoles and this spin off handheld game which takes completely it's own direction. And it's all the better for it. Gone are the irritating camera problems and control issue that have bogged Mickey down on the main consoles, and instead we have a game that plays like a classic 16 bit platformer. Graphically, it's stunning and screenshots do it no justice...anyone who's even a little bit of a Disney fan will immediately appreciate just how much work has gone into the visuals and animation and just how well the 3DS's 3D effect compliments them. Sound-wise, it's also fantastic with plenty of chattering from Mickey himeself, tons of sound effects and grand orchestral scores for each stage. As for gameplay...at first it'll seem a lot slower than what you're used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good 30 Nov 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
To see a very in-depth review, have a look at ToxieD above who summed the game up very nicely and convinced me to get the game.

+ Several levels from Peter Pan, Aladdin and The Mermaid.
+ Gorgeous graphics, seriously amazing. Who would have thought the 2d spites and 3d background would go so well together. More games should embrace this.
+ Lots of characters to meet, side quests to undertake and rooms to upgrade.
+ Music is great, very fitting.
+ Witty dialogue
+ Suitable for many ages

- The opening was rather slow and a quite abit of text to read
- Repetitive (but fun)gameplay
- Constant sketching grates from time to time

Overall, a good Mickey Mouse game, a fine first outing on the 3ds but could have been better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 3DS game 3 Jun 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Verified Purchase
Just as it's console counterpart a great platforming game. Have to say it's a bit short :S (that's why I took a star off).
Still has some replay value to get every item and all in the game. Nice 3D effects as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dis illusioned 24 Nov 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo 3DS|Verified Purchase
This game looks lovely, and, although I'm only a couple of hours in, I really needed to write a review. However, the positivity ends here, gameplay is already repetitive and frustrating, I'll go back a step. With two young children I didn't really get the chance to play Epic Mickey on the wii and I did play castle of illusion ages ago so I thought I'd give this a go. So, it's a 2d platformer with 3d backgrounds, this was my first shock, even though it is nice to play a platformer it does make you feel a little like you're going back in time! My first huge dissapointment was the fact that there are only 3 levels as such: Neverland, Aladdin and the Little Mermaid YAWN, after playing the Kingdom Hearts franchise these realms feel really over used, I really wanted more, maybe a journey from Disney films past to present or, at least some new ones, Rapunzel or Princess and the frog or something - sigh. My next major dissapointment was the lack of ingenuity given to the painting/thinning aspects of the game. I was hoping that it would be more like one of my all time favourites Okami, instead it's just paint this block, erase that block, mediocre puzzle solving. I've also heard that it's very short in gameplay. Another big whinge, and this may be because I've just been playing Lego franchise games and comparing this to them, is that when you die it's right back to the beggining, no save points and no accumulating cash that you've already gathered or characters you've rescued, no, you have to slog through it all again, this makes it all feel a bit, well, pointless. If you'd like to play this game, rent or borrow, so far at least it's not worth the price tag.

3.0 out of 5 stars Might as well stick with 2D
3D looks more like 2 layers of 2D and the booklet is simply one piece of paper folded different ways.
