I purchased this item because my toddler after being put into bed would immediately get out of bed and go and sit by his door by the hallway light.
This item is small and doesn't given off a huge amount of light, enough to ease any fears of a small child but not enough that it would disrupt someone getting to sleep. The fact that it turns itself off is very handy and my son very quickly learnt how to switch it back on (you just press the top down) We didn't want to buy one that would be stuck in a socket as these ones will stay on all night wasting power, this type solves that problem and my son will now not go to bed without it.

Our 3 year old loves this and so do we. He can use it independently, it shuts off by itself so as to not run the batteries out, and his little brother can't break it or strangle himself with it.
