This review is from: Disney Cars Mack Track Challenge (Toy)
My son saw the adverts for this toy around Christmas Time, and with his love of Cars, it was perhaps a dead cert that this would be at the top of his Christmas List - and it was. To be honest there's not much to it and now the initial excitement has died down, it doesn't get as much attention as it used too. The big light coloured blocks on each side of the track (which serve as a sort of stadium seating) house four large D cell batteries and a spinning rubber belt. The Rubber spinning belt proppels most of the Cars brand Die-Cast toys around the track. For added interest, the trailer of the Mack truck also drifts from side to side, and if you press a button at the right time it opens up a little lane and the cars can zoom up the back of Mack and do a little jump and carry on racing. The spinning rubber belt system requires a certain width of car to work. For example, Lightning McQueen, Chick Hicks and Mr The King all race around quite happily, as do a fair number of non-Cars branded cars. Filmore and Luigi and dare I say Guido however do not. you can get maybe three or four cars going round at the same time before everything gets a bit tired and slows down.
What can you say? It's fairly pricey for what it is. It holds limited apeal. It's noisy. Has little educational value, but for a couple of hours a week my little three year old seems to absolutely adore it. Oh and another thing; if the cars look a bit tired going round, and the burst of power from the rubber spinning belt isn't enough to make them go around any more - try this handy tip. Get a can of that "back to black" style sillicon spray that you can get for making your dashboard and trims look nice. Spray some on a cloth and give the track a wipe. The cars litterally ROCKET round.

Bought for our 4 year old, it was top of his xmas list and he was pleased to receive it. Easy enough to put together and use, just fairly limited play value. Once you've done it a few times, there's not much else to do with it. It's been used on and off since xmas day but not much.

I have a 5-year old boy who absolutely loves everything related in any way to Lightning McQueen. This was his "main present" for Christmas 2009, and I'm so sorry I bothered with it at all. It was expensive, it's flimsy, the batteries don't last long, the rubber belt is only designed to fit the standard original release die-cast cars, (so anyone with a smaller set of cars, like cars miniatures, won't be able to use them on this). The track itself is ugly, it's complicated enough to piece together - there's no way my 5-year-old could put it together.
All in all, a huge disappointment from what is usually a reliable brand, and a complete waste of money - I think he's played with it twice. For anyone who's looking for a hard-wearing, durable, large racetrack suitable for play with any cars, I'd recommend checking out the Roary the RaceCar Race Track.
