Upon his 1600th birthday, Santa Claus is given a very special gift: a white, fluffy, stuffed toy puppy which is brought to life by the Great Christmas Icicle (turning him into Santa Paws). When Santa loses his memory and becomes lost in New York, Paws and his new friends must find him and his magic crystal in order to restore Christmas. Along the way, they try to brighten the lives of Quinn and Will, a couple orphans whose only wish is to have a family.

BEWARE!!!!!!! I've not written a film review before, but felt compelled to warn parents of small children - I sat and watched this with my 7 yr old (who thought it was good and my 5, nearly 6 year old, who hated it). It starts with Santa being informed that his best friend has died (during his birthday celebrations) it goes on to show a young child, whose parents have just died, being dumped by a social worker at a horrid foster home (where the owner incinerates the kids toys- you actually see a favourite doll inflames). The film continues almost the whole way through I this vein. Santa nearly dies, the dog dies twice, the child crawls into the incinerator. It's horrid. Having started the film, I persuaded my daughter to finish it, sure it would end well, which of course it does, but this in no way compensated for her tears all the way through (I don't feel small kids get the "pleasure" of a weepy film, and she'd have been better off waiting a good few years for this one, so don't show it to even slightly sensitive souls!

I watched this with my 4 year old and my daughter really liked it and i loved it.
it was a feel good movie with lots of xmas spirit.
it was great on the adult side of things cos my four year old is only just beginning to learn about father christmas , elves etc and still doesnt fully understand it all, after this film though she was asking lots of questions and defiantly knows and understands it all a lot better.
there was some singing in it as well which was my daughters favourite part.
the only warning i would give is that there is one line in the story when the little girl says 'is santa claus going to die?' my daughter promptly burst into tears and was upset for a few minutes after until we explained that he wasnt and he was going to be ok and once she saw it on the film she was fine,we watched it again the next day and although she didnt cry again at the same scene she looked really upset still, so just watch out for this if you have younger sensitive ones.
there was a good mixture of humour and cuteness and the little girl was adorable,
a must have xmas film and defiantly one for all the family

firstly I wouldnt watch a film titled santa paws and expect it to change my life I bought it for my 5 and 2 year old to get excited about christmas and the overall film is good, however as you expect with most stories they have sad moments then happy moments, the sad moments in this film lasted the first one hour and five mins. My five year old cryed the entire movie and even my wife and I got to the point where we wondered if the film makers where having a joke. For a U rated film it shouldn't have farther christmas on his death bed the dog heading to be burnt in a furness and children being locked in a pitch black basement by there wicked carer??? I mean come on it's a christmas film for children

I can recommend this film for ALL the family to watch, as we all take from a film what we understand, depending on age.

I bought this for my 7 year old's birthday and she sat with her two best friends to watch this. After half an hour they were all in tears and couldn't sit to watch the whole thing - the little girl with no Mummy and Daddy, Father Christmas about to die, the dog turned into a toy again were just three elements that have affected them all and casued bad dreams since.

I STRONGLY recommend that you do not buy this DVD for any child that is the slightest bit sensitve.

Its Disney, its got Santa Claus, talking dogs and the cutest little girl ever in Kaitlyn Maher so how could it not be great family entertainment. Yes small children get locked in the basement by the wicked witch type character who also puts the stuffed dog in the incinerator and yes Santa does appear to be on his deathbed but everything is made right in the end by love and the magic if Christmas, that's what its all about. Children can't be wrapped in cotton wool and protected from all real life, this film tells a timeless story about love and Christmas in an enjoyable way and its great fun. So it rips off Annie and a few other movies but kids won't notice. If your children are a little sensitive watch it with them but don't deny them this little slice of Christmas magic because it might make them cry, the ending will bring a smile to everyone's face. Best line in the movie? LA chartered accountant James Huckle wishes aged New York lawyer Mr Stewart 'happy holidays' to which he replies 'Merry Christmas', well done Disney for that little morsel of common sense. Happy holidays? Bah humbug!

Watched this at the cinema with a four year old. less than half way through the film she and myself, along with 90% of the children in the cinema were in tears! For a U rated film why is santa and his dog nearly dead and kids locked in a basement!?! would not recommend to any one!!
