Having not read a Mills and Boon for 30 years, I was pleasantly surprised by what I found between the covers of this modest little novel. A delightful piece of escapism, well plotted and written with likeable, believable characters and more than a passing nod at some major historical and social events of 1812. The style reminded me of Georgette Heyer: but the horror of the hero and heroine at the slave trade and their concern with other social injustices of the time made them even more acceptable to a 21st century reader. And if a few paragraphs of politics is not to your liking, there were pages and pages of beautifully written sex scenes to complete your escape from reality! A very enjoyble read.

I must admit I enjoyed reading the story about this headstrong, outspoken heroine who wanted to lead her own life and not bend to society's wishes in Regency England, but I found something lacking. Sir Chase Boston is a fine handsome rake who is clearly smitten with Caterina and wants to show her how a proper 'wooing' is done, but the intimacy scenes are lacking and leaves me wanting for more - more of what Im not sure, but it's not a bad story.

The story could be set in any era, you don't get a sense of it being set in Regency times, historical details seem to be missing somehow. The hero and heroine are modern somehow, the language is wrong.
