Having not read a Mills and Boon for 30 years, I was pleasantly surprised by what I found between the covers of this modest little novel. A delightful piece of escapism, well plotted and written with likeable, believable characters and more than a passing nod at some major historical and social events of 1812. The style reminded me of Georgette Heyer: but the horror of the hero and heroine at the slave trade and their concern with other social injustices of the time made them even more acceptable to a 21st century reader. And if a few paragraphs of politics is not to your liking, there were pages and pages of beautifully written sex scenes to complete your escape from reality! A very enjoyble read.
