Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

If it's humour, depth, tactics and classic RPGing you want, then look no further than Disgaea 2. Developed by Nippon Ichi, the original Disgaea was voted by RPGfan.com as one of the top 3 games of the year when it was released. It also won the Strategy Game of the Year award on gamespy.com. This sequel retains all of the original game's Do anything and try everything heritage while also making some radical innovations. Fans of Disgaea have also been listened to with their feedback and ideas incorporated into a number of the game's new features.

Disgaea's wickedly dark sense of humour has always been one of its most popular features and this has been taken to a whole new level of evil enjoyment with the new Dark Court system. Now the player is positively encouraged to be bad with the game rewarding your darkest most devious actions. But be careful, there are positive and negative results for everything you do within the game. Think you're badder than you really are and you might just get summoned to court and suffer the shame of being found innocent.

As a direct response to calls from fans of the original, Disgaea 2 will now take place within a brand new 3D environment with animated sprites and anime cut scenes. Players will also be able to stack their characters on top of each other in order to combine their powers and unleash special combos and attacks.

Disgaea 2 is the latest RPG spectacular from Nippon Ichi and follows in the footsteps of the hugely popular titles Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave, La Pucelle: tactics and of course the massive original Disgaea. With a whole new cast of characters along with many of the gang fondly remembered from the first game all turning up to do battle, Disgaea 2 is already looking like being one of the RPG events of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars More of the same and welcome 21 Dec 2006
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Having bought the first game 6 months ago and enjoyed the humour and the sheer scope of play I was keen to buy the new game. Obviously the makers have had a larger budget this time, as the graphics are far better and the cut scenes much larger.

Despite coming off the back of a popular first game there is a large amount of hand holding at the beginning of the game. This does get slightly irritating as you spend the first few levels beating up easy opponents. As a result it does take some getting into.

However it is worth the wait. The characters are quirky and funny as ever, especially Tink - a frog with a split personality. The hero plays the straight guy comically well to the rest of the demonic cast and there is plenty of innuendo and casual references to sex and violence to keep anyone from year 10+ in giggles. The improvement in the graphics has brought improvements to the fighting as well. Combos and special moves are spectacular while the game simply looks good. Naturally not on your Final Fantasy scale but it does have charm.

The cut scenes are good as well - especially the news channel. The game is very tongue in cheek having a few sly digs at Star Wars (`wipe them out - all of them', `yes my master') and the character themselves squabbling and name-calling. The word `moron' is repeated a fair bit to describe our hero. It seems accurate to be fair.

There are decent improvements to the Dark Assembly bribery systems with different parties and people to placate before putting forward bills.

All in all a good buy.

If you like Disgaea then Disgaea 2 will not let you down. Some may claim it's just more of the same, but is that necessarily a bad thing ? Tactics and use of geo panels plays an integral part in winning, but there's more options available now.

The story and humour stick with the tried and tested formula and certainly don't miss.

My only complaint (and it was the same in Disgaea 1) is that the item world maps can often be too random. If you come across a map with ridiculously varying terrain you may as well just give up as the map is too frustrating (and eye watering) to read.

On the good side Etna is as cute and sarcastic as ever ^_^

Well worth the money and will give many hours of pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST. JRPG. EVER. 16 Nov 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
So deep, so fast to play, so long, so quick to complete, so compelling, so involved, so many options, so many levels of depth.
Basically you can play this game from anything between 30 and 500 hours. Seriously: find it, buy it, love it.
I one read "Disgaea is not about fair fights, it is about getting strong and splatting the enemy before they have even moved". That sums it up nicely, there are so many ways for one to get stronger, and it is so fast to progress, once one learns a trick or two, that ... oooh ... forget this, I'm off to play it again.
