Product Description

An essential handbook for the person wishing to keep their free-range hens or waterfowl healthy. It covers other domesticated bird species too such as ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, quail and pheasants. This updated edition gives straight forward and easy-to-understand guidance on good management, common diseases and problems, and how to watch for the early signs of problems, with the idea of catching them before they prove fatal. Although free-range poultry are much healthier than those kept intensively, even they can suffer from coccidiosis, avian TB and other diseases as well as possibly having a vitamin deficiency or lice. Some knowledge of a bird's anatomy and how its body works will help to explain why certain conditions are more likely to occur and so the book includes clear descriptions, photos, and diagrams of the various body functions and systems.

I have all the books on poultry health and disease out there and this is BY FAR the most informative one you can buy.

It describes ailments and problems in a simple but informative manner.

The writer clearly demonstrates her HUGE amount ok knowledge of all poultry and has a superb way of getting her point across.

Some parts even made me laugh out loud.

Both images and text are clear and easy to understand and all the information given is practical.

This book should be on any poultry owners shelf, I cannot recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disesaes of free range poultry book 26 Jun 2011

Format:Hardcover
Found this book very useful and informative. Does not go into great detail about some subjects but is the best book at a very reasonable price that I have found. I would definately recommend this book for the "backyard pet chicken keeper".

5.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative book 6 Aug 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The fact that this book's written by a well-known vet specializing in free range poultry gives me great confidence in it. Gives practical and detailed advice as well as being a very interesting read which will give you a better understanding of your birds. Well worth the money for avoiding vet's bills!
