Product Description

By the author of "The Streets of Ankh-Morpork" and "The Discworld Companion". This pack contains a detailed map, in colour, of the Discworld, plus a booklet with lots of wacky facts and figures.

From the Back Cover

THE DISCWORLD MAPP

They said it couldn't be done. Well, it has been done, proving them wrong once again. After years of research, cunningly contrived in as many minutes, the Discworld has its map. It takes full account of the historic and much-documented expeditions of the Discworld's feted (or at leats fated) explorers: General Sir Roderick Purdeigh, Lars Larsnephew, Llamedos Jones, Lady Alice Venturi, Ponce da Quirm and, of course, Venter Borass.

Now travellers on this circular world can see it all: from Klatch to the Ramtops, from Cori Celesti to the Circle Sea, from Genua to Bhangbhangduc. The great cities of Hunghung, Pseudopolis, Al Khali and, of course, Ankh-Morpork are placed with loving care upon this world which is carried through space by Great A'Tuin.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Mapp of the 'Unmappable', 6 Nov 2005
By Matt Graubner "blackwolff" (Kentucky, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"I said there would never be a map of the Discworld. This is it." Thus does Pratchett introduce this volume, however, he explains that he didn't want to start with a map and fit everything onto it, rather the map essentially evolved as his stories multiplied until it could be physically created.

From Lancre to Uberwald to Koom Valley you can plot out where everything is. I do find it most useful to put everything and the many varied locations in perspective. For example now you can see exactly how the witches flew to Genua or where Leshp was.

Accompanying the large map is a small booklet containing small biographies of the Disc's prominent explorers (those who were proper explorers anyway). These were enjoyable, but not quite the same as a Discworld story (though the normal humour was present in full). My only disappointment with the map is that I simply cannot locate Copperhead!

Just don't expect any earthshattering revelations about the nature of the Disc: "Exactly how [the internal layer of molten rock] is maintained, and how the water that pours ceaselessly over the rim from the Circle Sea is replaced, are but two of the unfathomable mysteries of the world."

A true Discworld aficionado shouldn't be without this mapp. But if you're a more casual reader then it might be best to leave things up to your imagination and Terry's wonderful descriptive language.

4.0 out of 5 stars More useful than any real map, 11 Jan 2004
I've been a Discworld fan for a few years now so i finally bought this map to follow exactly where characters were actually going in the books. It's very well drawn and shows where all the key locations of the books are. Unfortunately the accompanying booklet is rather short and is mostly taken up by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Briggs talking about the project rather than a full story.
A good purchase for any discworld fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a World, 8 April 2001
By A Customer
This map is well worth the money, especially considering the price you usually pay for posters. You not only get a massive fold-out map of the Discworld but a small booklet, with interesting facts as well as the locations of important places on the Disc. This is the most comprehensive map to the Discworld you can find anywhere, and the artwork is fantastic. I do not believe producing this map was a mistake, there are plenty places which are not identified, leaving room for Pratchetts imagination to roam free in future books. Letting you see where all the places you are familiar with, I believe, enhances the enjoyment of the books. A lot of effort went into producing this map, and it shows. This is an essential purchase for any Discworld fan.
