5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely inspiring - a fanstastic book, 8 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This is a fantastic book - it's written in an easy to read style, as if the writers were chatting to you over a pint in the pub.
The story is a amazing one, covering many many miles, but the thing I loved most was the vivid, interesting descriptions of the things they saw and the people they met along the way. It made it much more addictive than a tale of pure physical slog. It also covers the questions everyone wonders about but never normally get anwered - how much did it cost, how could they afford a year off, how did they plan, didn't they ever fall out, what about their lives back home?
What better review can I give than that his book alone has inspired me to escape from the rat race and cycle around New Zealand for 6 months!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy going and friendly book., 17 Aug 2000
By Han Zup (Brighton, England) - See all my reviews
Discovery Road is a travel journal, personal diary and self-development book all rolled into one easy-going, chatty and very friendly piece of literature.

Marc Bolan once said, "book after book, I get hooked everytime the writer talks to me like a friend". I was hooked from the moment Andy Brown talked about his disillusionment with career, right through to the final pages of this three continent dash.

This book is for anyone looking for something outside of the obvious. Discovery Road reminded me of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull by Richard Bach, but far more achievable.

Once in a while you come across a book that's just a sheer delight to read. That's what this book was for me and I'd recommend it without reservation to anyone in possession of, or in search of, a spirit of adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, 6 Jun 2005
By J. Austin "cloudgirl" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is tremendously enjoyable and inspirational. I have read a fair few travel/adventure type auto biographies and with many of them after the initial excitement of beginning the trip the writing deteriorates into a boring descripition that just reads basically like an itinerary. Not so this one.

Plenty of humour, excellent descriptions, so good you actually feel you are right there along side the guys most of the time.

The only thing is wonder is 'where are the photographs?'. There are amusing drawings to break up the text but at least a few photos would have been nice. Maybe it was to do with printing/publication cost etc.

A must read for those feeling call of the unknown and toying with the idea of taking the road less travelled.

Buy it.
