This is a really tough review to write. First, I have to qualify that I am a dino nut.I have watched the Jurrassic Park trilogy far too many times, as I have Walking With Dinosaurs.... so when I spotted this, I thought, bingo... 6 dvds of Dino fun...
Best way to analyse this little lot is as follows: if you want a proper scientific trip through each of the 6 DVD's, you're in the right place. There are lots of interviews with scientists, trips back in time and footage of great dino digs in places as varied as Argentina and the Isle Of Wight. From this you will learn a lot about the various fossils unearthed around the globe which have given us a major advance in our understanding of the subject matter....
BUT, and here is the big catch, if you are looking for top dino animations a la Jurassic Park, Walking With Dinosaurs etc, you will be sorely dissappointed. This series was made between 1998 and 2000, from the print on the boxes, Jurassic Park came out in 1993, so you would imagine that there would be some great graphics here, but the dinos themselves could have come from one of those plasticine animations from the 1950's.
It's bizarre, this series is fronted by The Discovery Channel so you would (as I did) imagine that they would go all out on creating something that rivals the BBC's finest, but it does not come anywhere close.
I still will give it three stars for the actual narratives which are educational and very interesting, but truly, this whole series needs re-making with new animations. Get that in and this will probably be the best dino series you will see, in terms of educational and entertainment values.
