Documentary profiling the design, development and construction of the world's first supersonic airliner. The product of an Anglo-French treaty, Concorde flew its inaugural flight in 1969, entering service in 1976. With only twenty aircraft built, Concorde flew regular transatlantic flights from London to New York for twenty-seven years, before finally being retired from service in 2003.

I'm reluctant to give this "2 disc" DVD even one star, but it seems there's no "zero star" available on Amazon.

To begin - the first disc is a so-called complete "history", seemingly framed around what seems to be the cheapest film stock available. It has none of the interesting facts about frustrations over engineering, international design clashes (very much a feature of why the "English/French" plane took so long to get off the runway in the first place) and to cap it all, none of the footage of the final Concorde crash. It contains few technical details of note, and only a passing mention as to why Concorde never reached its full potential in sales - or why the prospect of supersonic air travel failed (in a one-line aside, it blames Concorde's failure on the 1970s oil crisis, which ignores the fact there were 200 orders in place at the time!) This a pitiful example of a pseudo-educational film that was used to keep satellite broadcasting pulped out and pumped out. Honestly - you could learn more from a quick glance at the Wikipedia page on Concorde. To rub salt into the wound, in my honest view it is also narrated in a style that I can only describe as not only amateurish, but painfully slow, as if it were pitched to the under-12s. There are a few unenlightening interviews with a couple of lead pilots which *could* have been interesting, if only the questioner had the first idea of what he was talking about.

The second disc is of higher visual quality, and features many more interviews, but these are largely irrelevant. It's essentially a load of Concorde staff and regular flyers bemoaning the plane's demise as a commercial airliner.

I found the first of the dvd's to be the most interesting. This production gives the full story in plenty of detail.
