About the Author

First time published author, Joshua Shaffer, has spent his adult life frequenting Disneyland. One year while on a Disney vacation, it struck him that he should write an all inclusive book compiling every bit of information into one vacation guide that cannot be found anywhere else. It started with that simple notion and has evolved into this final work. As a hobby he spends much of his spare time researching and investigating to find out the facts not just the rumors on a variety of topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say? This is a must-have book! 14 Mar 2013

There are so many elements to Discovering the Magic Kingdom: An Unofficial Disneyland Vacation Guide. First of all, it's just super interesting reading. I read it through twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times! So many fun things to learn about Disneyland all in one book. It's great that it's in paperback book form to easily carry in a backpack or stroller for reference throughout the park. And, while you're standing in lines waiting for rides, it's a great time to share the facts about that particular ride with all the other people around you. It helps make the time go faster for you and them. And, you get to meet lots of people and help make their day a little more fun. You'll find out how to get free coffee refills while in the park, how to make the trip more affordable, how to maneuver the park in one day (if needed), where to save money on food outside the park, where to stay, ghost stories, information that Cast Members have shared, and just so many fun facts about the rides, the people who have been instrumental in all things Disneyland, and more information about Walt Disney himself. I could go on and on about this book because there's just so much material in it. And, there's even a whole section dedicated to Disney movies and the studio. Especially fun in the Disney movie section is reading little tidbits about things to look for in the different movies (like characters from one movie in the background of another movie). Now, I have to watch all the movies and look for the items that Joshua points out in the movie section. I truly can't wait until Joshua's new book comes out because I know there will be so much more fun stuff to discover about Disneyland. And, one more thing--the price is great!!!!This is a wonderful, affordable gift idea for family and friends who also like Disneyland.
5.0 out of 5 stars An essential guide for a fantastic trip! 13 Mar 2013

We purchased this book in preparation of our Daughter's first trip to Disneyland and are extremely glad we did. This extremely well written book, Discovering The Magic Kingdom: An Unofficial Disneyland Vacation Guide is a great go to book for all kinds of information about the park such as height restrictions, dining options, when to avoid the crowds, and smart insider tips. It also gives a great guide for retail stores, restaurants, and service stores outside of the park for your convenience. Be sure to take this book with you on your trip because it contains all sorts of fun facts, park history, interesting stories, and clues to hidden Mickeys throughout the park. We would highly recommend this book to anyone planning a vacation to the park, interested in the park, or wanting to learn more about Disneyland in general. It was a fantastic find!
5.0 out of 5 stars Disney fans read this 4 Feb 2013

I had not been to Disneyland for 20 years and this book brought me back up to speed. This book has so much information about the park, rides and movies. I brought my family with me and we would go through the book and mark pages for different areas of the park we really wanted to see. The author has really taken time to explain in ends and outs of Disney. With so much information its a great book to keep out on the coffee table. It makes a great conversation piece for company.
5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a travel guide 26 Jan 2013

This book has a lot of great information for your trip to Disneyland. What I especially loved about it though was the extra sections that tell you a lot of the the back story, or little known facts, about the Park, the attractions and characters. The book was filled with lots of fun information that makes it beneficial even for the experienced Disney traveler.
