More About the Author

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy reading my book - the self development book for people who don't do self development. It's fun, it's dead easy to read and it's not full of buzz words and jargon!

Now here's the bio!

Wendy spent 30 years at 'the coal face' as PA working for executives at all levels, starting out as a Girl Friday working for McCann Erickson Advertising Agency in London at the age of 19.
Since then she's workd in a variety of industries, including Insurance, Education, Commodities Trading, IT and Law. For 10 of those years Wendy was a summer sports coach taking a succession of Rounders teams to glory. Her teams consistently did well, which convinced her that she had a gift for getting the very best out of other people. She was introduced to self development nearly 20 years ago which helped her overcome a series of personal setbacks.

Wendy's coaching skills were forged at the tender age of 10 whilst working for her dad in London during the summer holidays. Being in the 'eye of the storm' Wendy and her four sisters were given a unique insight the impact running a business had on her father - both good and bad.

Curious Facts:
At school Wendy was a gifted athlete which she used to overcome serious behavioural and academic challenges as a child

In 1998 Wendy narrowly missed being seriously injured by a runaway car that crashed through a plate glass window of the shop she was in at the time

She survived a Near Death Experience after major surgery in 1995

Her Great Grandfather William Worboys spent most of his career as a Train Driver on the Flying Scotsman, and on 30th November 1934 he took this historic train into the record books, when it became first steam train ever to travel at over 100 mph

Her Grandfather Captain Harold Quick skippered the Marconi Research Vessel the Elettra II on it's voyages around the North Sea during the 1960's. Both the Elettra I and Elettra II yachts were used as test beds and demonstrations for equipment designed by MWT/Marconi Communications Marine Development Group.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, Wendy abseiled down a waterfall, and a 110 ft office block for charity in 2007

Wendy has performed as a cellist at St Michaels Cave in Gibraltar, The Royal Albert Hall, as well as concert halls in Santander and Vigo in Spain

I have read so many self-help, motivational and coaching books during my career and it takes a lot these days for me to put my hands in my pocket and add to my book collection, but 'Discover Yourself on the Yellow Brick' road is brilliant.

Wendy's easy style with valuable, punchy points coming at you thick and fast means that I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to make more sense of this amazing journey called life. Not only from a career perspective, but also for your personal development as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be brave walk the yellow brick road 22 May 2009
The Yellow brick road is a story we are all familiar with and the fact that Dorothy had a difficult journey down it, but never gave up and got there in the end, gives empathy to this book. It's easy to read and relate to. You hear yourself saying "Yes that's me! Yes I do that!". It read well and enjoyed it, Wendy's skill in writing means you can almost touch the feeling of 'I can achieve!'. Go on read it and you'll find yourself saying "OK world...I'm ready...bring it on!".

5.0 out of 5 stars Live your life "on purpose"! 19 May 2009
Unlike Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", the "7 Core Principles of Career Success" is served up as a conversation between two people (the author and the reader); there is unconscious interaction and there are numerous 'lightbulb' moments which normally only occur in a face-to-face situation - which is what sets this book apart from the rest.

Over a decade of my career was spent in training and consulting, so the methodologies Wendy includes in her roadmap to self realisation and (more importantly) taking action or "living your life on purpose", are not new to me. What is, and refreshingly so, is the context into which she brings the diversity of personal and business psychology that you'd ordinarily have to read over 20 books in order to acquire and benefit from (if you can get past those buzzwords!).

Like our heroes on the train and in the pub, once hooked, I could not put the book down and it was devoured in one sitting! Unlike the heroes in Wendy's book, I realised that I actually made the right decision 4 years ago to start my own business after redundancy - doing something that is as far away from my previous corporate life as it is possible to get; for that reason alone this book is worth every penny! Her words remain in my thoughts and, as importantly, form part of my decision-making processes now, even after the last page has been digested, and are providing me (as a lone entrepreneur) with a virtual mentor in the absence of suitable physical one at the present time.

To paraphrase that excellent quote at the start of 'Principle 7 - Vision', "I am no longer doing business, I am building one".

5.0 out of 5 stars An 'interactive workshop' on paper 8 Jun 2009
A refreshingly non-academic work on the difficult subject of advising on 'personal development', this book hits many of the issues we all face throughout our lives and gives clear, simple messages in dealing with our innermost highs, lows, aspirations, fears, conflicts, aggression, uncertainties, ambitions, barriers, etc., etc., etc.. It is a surprisingly comprehensive distillation of every matter we might face on our life's journey through personal relationships, education, work and retirement. It's an 'interactive workshop' between the covers of an inexpensive paperback book.

The author's style is chatty and laced with humour, but deals with the difficult issues positively and sympathetically. The straightforward language used contrasts markedly with some of the quotations from the academic literature on the subject. This style makes the book a very easy and pleasurable read, and enables the reader to take in the points at the first visit. There is a noticeable lack of 'white space' in the pages of the book, which means the reader is drawn into the subsequent sections without the interruption of chapter endings. It only takes a couple of hours to read, but I know I will be re-visiting significant sections and using the exercises to make changes in my own future interactions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 8 Jun 2009
Brilliant, this book is great for anyone going through a big change like redundancy or even if you just want to re-evaluate your situation. Wendy's writing is completely unique and her referrals to the characters in the Wizard of Oz communicates the point in a down to earth way with a touch of humour. Highly reccomended.
