5.0 out of 5 stars Discover Nature Awareness, 8 Nov 2011
This review is from: Discover Nature Awareness (Paperback)
I was extremely interested in the games highlighted in Geoffrey's book. I liked his detailed explanation of how to run the games, the expected outcomes, and especially his own experiences when running the games. It is quite obvious that Geoffrey has an exquisite affinity with nature, and he is passionate about passing the message across for the benefit of those either requiring therapeutic interventions or those just wanting to utilise nature's playground. Even if you have seen some of the games before, you may want to consider Geoffrey's observations as you will soon realise there may be new aspects to explore with your own participants. My only question? When's the next book due out?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Nature book, 20 Dec 2011

The book was very well written... I liked the letters of support at the end of the book as they showed how the games are used in a wide and varied field which made me think on how I could use them in my work (especially as one of the letters was from someone working with a very similar client group).

It was also a nice touch having you encourage/give permission to readers to change the games to suit their own needs as too often these things are written with no flexibility - which does not always work well with very inflexible young people.

I REALLY liked the sit spot idea. I can really see the value in using this with disengaged young people who never have "quiet" time. It would help them to reach a state of quiet relaxation and give them an opportunity to just observe for a while; this would be a great tool for anger management sessions.

I can see times during my work with young people, where these games would be of great value. In my experience, the young people I work with have just enjoyed the thrill of being in an outdoor environment (a unique time for most of them) - surrounded by nothing but trees and nature. To have these games to add value to this experience would be a great additional tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, 5 Dec 2011
This review is from: Discover Nature Awareness (Paperback)
I liked the references at the end. I felt that the inclusion of these provides confidence in the games and doubled as a teaching aid as they subtly provided teaching points and points for reference when playing the games yourself... the illustrations, I feel complemented the books "mood" very well.

I liked the game instructions they were comprehensive and easy to follow. I also liked the examples of your experiences. These were a very useful reference point/teaching aid... The quick guide - is short, snappy and to the point great to use on location as a quick reminder before starting a session.

I enjoyed reading your book and feel privileged to have done so... I found it an easy going read which I felt was in keeping with the ethos of the book itself which enhanced the reading experience. The book didn't feel like a manual which is where many instructional books fall down as too many facts...

The writing style came across as relaxed, easy going and encouraging, on completion I wanted to try the games to see what the results would be. I really liked that owners of the book are encouraged to take complete ownership of the games and develop and shape them as they see fit. I feel that this is often overlooked when reading game instructions and I feel that this information really emphasized the method that you are trying to get people to partake in.
