This book is a fabulous guide to Grammar, providing key framework analysis for GCSE / AS/ A2 students. A really useful text book that guides you through the minefield that is grammar.

if you child is struggling with their writing i would say this is a must have! not only will they understand the reason why they are placing certain words in their sentences but also why the order is the way it is! i was told to purchase this for university and found it's use endless. Even now in school's, this book is a primary aid! believe me you will not regret purchasing it !

1.0 out of 5 stars The contents pages are the best bit! 25 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I would not recommend this book to anyone. It is short on explanations to each topic and heavy on activities that you as the reader have to do. None of the activities have answers so of the thousands of questions to be tackled in the book you can't check your progress or see if you are right or wrong by looking up the answers.

The contents pages are the best part - everything looks logical and connected and it seems that at the end of the book you would have indeed discovered grammar.

This is not the case. You will instead discover yourself up to your neck in hard-to-work through examples - all of which are very old fashioned. If you think this example of the use of an adverb is amusing:

"I think I'd prefer a poodle", said her father doggedly.

then this is the book for you. There are 15 more adverbs for you to make you own entertaining and supposedly amusing sentences with.

If, on the other hand you want an easy-to-use book that really tells you about how to learn about grammar, with answers so you can check your progress, then this is not the book for you. To use a simile this book is as dull as ditchwater.

3.0 out of 5 stars Discover Grammar 6 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is supposed to be a book about grammar. Unfortunately, I am not impressed by the author's haste in compiling this edition which, in my view, is no more than a book of dazzling colours rather than grammar. Its content is very poor, indeed.
Maybe this book is more suited to elementary students than any other levels. As a reference book, it is mediocre.
