1.0 out of 5 stars Not a rural scene, 28 Sep 2006
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Discover England - Oxford And The Cotswolds [DVD] (DVD)
If the viewers are hoping to see a coverage of the towns. villages and countrysideof the Cotswolds then these two DVDs will be a diasappointment. With the exception of the part on Oxford (which is OK) the rest is more akin to a marketing brochure covering day-out places such as Zoos, wildlife parks, children's playgrounds and a couple of stately homes. Much time is given to advertising hotels, restaurants and pubs with continuous shots of hotel bedroms and swimming pools and scenes of waiters serving meals to customers in restaurants and pubs and hotels. If would-be tourists are looking for information these DVDs could act as a starter especially when it comes to accommodation, food and drink but if anybody wants to be reminded of the Cotswold scene they won't find it here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Oxford DVD- shame about the narrator!, 17 May 2006
This review is from: Discover England - Oxford And The Cotswolds [DVD] (DVD)
Excellent in-depth documentary about Oxford- packed full of historical information and great scenery. Only let downs were the slightly cheap-quality lift-style music in places, and the narrator. I'm sure he's a nice enouigh bloke, but really- it sounded like he either had a heavy cold or was talking with a mouthful of treacle!

I had to rewind the DVD a few times to re-listen to lines I didn't catch- that's not good when it's a studio-recorded, scripted narration...

Otherwise though, very worthwhile.
