Discover is a new set of guides sold by Lonely Planet designed specifically for travellers who do not want as much in-depth information about where they are visiting, but instead want more information about the can't miss opportunities.
As a guide in itself, this one's very good. Maps are clear, all the major cities and sites are detailed, there's some ideas for restaurants and accommodation and lots about the main sites. Best of all it's in colour, and feels a bit more sturdy (less likely to get tatty by the time you have finished your travels).
For me though, I couldn't help feel I was missing something though. I don't have the old Lonely Planet Egypt book so can't make a direct comparison but I couldn't help but think some of the information missing would have been of value. So often it's those little off-the-beaten-track locations which can be the highlight of the holiday and I suspect that's what's missing.
Overall, this is a good guide and new series of guides, especially if you are going for a weekend away and will only have time for the tourist stuff. That said, you could just as easily extract the information from the older book and decide yourself what to do.
I would have given this 3/5 as I do somewhat question the value, but the fact that it's in colour and very clear to read got it an extra point!
