Product Description

Product Description

This book is aimed at people with limited or no programming experience and equips them with the skills required by a professional programmer. These skills are taught within the Delphi environment allowing the user the 'fun' of producing attractive Graphical User Interfaces, whilst learning the fundamentals of programming, which are transferable to other imperative and object based languages.

From the Author

We really like Delphi!
We wrote this book for both beginners and more experienced programmers. It is based on course material we have successfully used with students of various levels (from school children, through undergraduates and postgraduates, to professional programmers and pensioners).

We teach Delphi because we like Delphi. It is relatively easy to use and produces professional results. It is fun to program with Delphi.

In the book we aim to guide the reader through the main features of Object Pascal by introducing programming concepts in tandem with Delphi components. Object Pascal is the underlying programming language provided by the Delphi environment.

Whichever version of Delphi you use, this book will be applicable.

This book is perfect if you want to learn Delphi, but also if you have started learning Delphi and want a reference book.

Unusually for Delphi books, it actually covers all Delphi versions 1-4 inc.

If you want to learn Delphi, or just extend your knowledge this is a great book.

This was the "set course book" for one of my university courses. I found the book's examples to be interesting, but the knowledge gained from the book couldn't be applied to the course! The book didn't give me transferable skills for the course, and was therefore useless! Several of my student colleagues agreed with me, and found the book to be a waste of time. Our university's computing department was poor, and many of us had gaping holes in our knowledge. This book didn't help at all.

The book was presented well, and the examples were understandable. However, this book will NOT teach you how to programme in Delphi, but it will teach you the basics on how to understand Delphi.

If you are an absolute beginner on a college or university course then you will need another book to understand Delphi ... this isn't the ultimate Delphi book .... not by a long way!

Is one of those books you buy when you first start with delphi with no previous programming experiance. If you dont fall into that catagory i would not reccomend this book at all. Is a well presented book that does explain well in most cases but fails to deliver when it comes to detail. I am a comp sci student at uni and this book helped me with the basics and touches on the next level but always manages to leave you hanging. After the first few practicles at uni the book became largely useless and as a reference book fails miserably. As a book to kick start you into the world of programming i would buy this book not for £30+ squid mind get it second hand then it might be worth the money you paid for it. so to conclude this book for me is a good book that illustrates well all the BASIC concepts of delphi and will help you understand programming techniques but you certainly will not be a programming genius afterwards. it got me through my first year so can be thankfull for that.
