Its release is presumably timed to coincide with the Sugababes 2002 UK chart topper "Freak Like Me", an inspired fusion of soul songstress Adina Howards "Freak Like Me" and Numans electro classic "Are Friends Electric?". Inevitably, "Are Friends Electric?" is here, though its a slightly stilted--but nevertheless rapturously received live version. Far better is a spirited swagger through "Cars".
Most of these live tracks were originally released as Ghost-- a fan club only album in 1986. Less familiar to all but the committed Numanoids is the bulk of the material on CDs One and Two. Of course, as Numans fans include the likes of Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan and Beck, its clear that Numans influence far outstrips his record sales. --Chris King
