Product Description

• James Wells first came to people’s attention via Ian Levine who discovered him when he filling in as lead singer for the group 100% Pure Poison on a UK date. From the first second he heard James’s over-the-top vocals (which were very similar to the similarly unknown Luther Vandross at the time), Levine knew that he had to record him. The result was a record which broke huge on the Northern Soul scene in the mid 70’s - the phenomenal “Baby I’m Still The Same Man” which suitably demonstrated James’s amazing vocals. • Following his auspicious debut and two more singles which were issued on Polydor in the UK, Levine then brought James to London to record his debut album “My Claim To Fame”. Rick Gianatos, the famous Chicago DJ who had just mixed Gene Chandler’s “Get Down” and Edwin Starr’s “Contact” got involved and the album was released in the U.S. on the A.V.I. label. “My Claim To Fame” was released as a 12” single and immediately raced up the U.S. Billboard Dance Charts before hitting No.1 for 7 weeks. • This package contains both of James Well’s original A.V.I. albums, all of his U.K. Polydor releases including “Baby I’m Still The Same Man”, “All I Ever Need Is Music” and the original version of “Never Let Go” – the song which and is packed to the brim with virtually everything he recorded prior to his untimely death in 1990. Both Rick Gianatos and Simon White have provided extensive sleeve notes. • Quite simply this is the most comprehensive James Wells package ever available.

Classic Disco !

Vocals to die for, arrangements that will blow your mind. This two CD set contains everything James Wells recorded including his Northern Soul hit Baby, I'm Still The Same Man, the epic 16 minute plus version of My Claim To Fame, the rare first versions of the Boogie and Disco classics Never Let Go and Love The Cure For Me, the original version of Double Dose Of Love, the two step classic I Guess That's Life and his wonderful duets with his sister Susan Wells. Beautifully remastered full length versions. Play them LOUD !

Don't Miss This One 12 Jun. 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I really need to add some balance to the other reviews. These albums are superb and among Ian Levine's best productions. In fact, I would go as far to say that they are better than the majority of the Disco Recharge releases. These are proper songs with well-structured arrangements. By comparison, the Boris Midney tracks (for example) appealing as they are, are collections of melodically pleasing hooks with arrangements that meander all over the place. This is how it should be done and I had no problems what so ever with the sound. Brighter than the previous James Wells CDs, for sure, but in line with the other Disco Recharge releases. Commendable.

Good Disco music, but doesn't read credits in computer 8 Feb. 2014

The discs reads as unknown album, unknown artist, track 1, track 2 etc... Not even a piece of information. I had to edit the whole thing manually. It wouldn't read in any of my 2 laptops. Music very worth if you like pure disco (I love it). Sounds much better than Mp3 version or Hot Productions copy. Very loud & clear. The 3 stars is for the lack of credits on computer playing. Music would have been 4 stars. Seeming like two 70's recordings. the long version of " True love is my destiny" is not there, but instead a few tracks from the 80's High Energy period, Also delightful "Never let go" is there. This was one of the discs I always thought if it was ever gonna be remastered I will get it. From this collection I also got the 2 THP Orchestra double cd's. another one I was waiting for. hope they keep the good pace....

DO NOT BUY THIS CD !!! 10 May 2014

Terrible sound quality. It has ear shattering treble with hardly any base sound. It is unlistenable with earphones. The old CD from the 90s sounds better.
