As the strength and depth of the disco catalogue is continually mined, Disco Italia contributes another important chapter. Reviled in its day, Italo Disco can now be appreciated as the sweet-toothed progenitor of the bedroom dj and House.
After disco went underground in the early 80s the next wave of producers and sounds surfaced using new, cheap technology. Pseudonyms and infantile English prevented widespread recognition and acceptance, but gay clubs carried the torch until everyone else caught up later in the decade.
Disco Italia features only 13 tracks, but that's okay because so much of the music was repetitive and virtually interchangeable (the lyrics, at least), and what's here is possibly - arguably - the best of the best.
If you enjoy Eurodisco, you'll love this.
