CD Description

Disco Discharge is back! The highly acclaimed series returns for its fourth set of releases throughout March, April and May to once again lift the spirits and provide a perfect Disco soundtrack to spring 2012!

As usual the winning combination of ace compiler Mr Pinks is accompanied by expert Disco commentator Alan Jones. A deadly combination with a proven track record!

The highly acclaimed series returns for its third outing in late April to provide some sublime, class and a lil bit of Italo Disco sensibility to the middle of spring and should get everyone nicely tuned-up for the summer!

As with our previous European Disco releases, this album showcases some of the best European dance music of the 80 s and features 24 full length 12 or long album versions of many sought-after Euro-Disco classics and highly collectible gems.

CD 1 kicks of with a huge pan Euro smash Taco s Putting On The Ritz and is then followed by such Euro masterpieces as Radiorama s Hey Hey , Loco Loco s Hey Mr DJ , Rose Lauren s Africa (Voodoo Master) , Aleph s Fly To Me and Digital Emotion s Go Go Yellow Screen and even Baltimora s worldwide smash Tarzan Boy among others!

CD 2 continues the theme with a ridiculously eclectic election of sizzling hot Euro pounders Jago s I m Gonna Go gets us off to a
beautiful start and is followed by such none household names as Cleo, Swan, Fancy, Lee Marrow, Brian Ice and Sweet Connection to name a few. Unless you were deep into the Euro scene at the time, there s a very good chance that you will have missed many of these. It s Disco Discharge s job to put this right! I mean with titles like Upside Down (Dizzy Does It Make Me) and Freak It Out Mr DJ you know you re in Disco Discharge territory!

Expect immediate demand as the first 12 releases in the Disco Discharge have now all become catalogue staples and are consistently in-demand. Disco Discharge is now the most consistently-selling premier Disco series in the world, so make sure you keep the whole catalogue in stock!

By Mr. D TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This review is for: Disco Discharge: Europa
I have bought all 16 of the Disco Discharge CD's released so far. This one is a particularly good one. The main thing with the tracks on this collection is that they are quality Italo-Disco, Eurobeat and Hi-NRG tracks and most are hard to find or have not appeared on CD before. The first track is slightly different to the rest. It's one of those tracks you either love or hate, but I love it. Taco's "Putting On The Ritz" means little in the UK, but in America it was a million seller reaching number 4 in the chart. It's a fantastic camp piece of nonsense updated from the 1930's film and delivered in a deadpan style. This extended 12" version has an instrumental medley of other tracks towards the end including "There's No Business Like Show Business". It was really hard to find on CD before. I managed to track it down on a Japanese import CD years ago, but now here it is being virtually given away on this bargain priced collection! Other hits here include Baltimora's 1985 summer hit "Tarzan Boy" (reached No. 3 in the UK, reached No. 1 in France and spent 6 months on the U.S. chart) in the original 12" version (Note: This is the original 12" version not the Summer Version which can be found on the Baltimora CD: Tarzan Boy which I have also reviewed), Fancy "Bolero (Hold Me In Your Arms Again)" which reached number 6 in Spain, and Silver Pozzoli "Around My Dream" which reached No. 9 in Germany and was No. 1 in South Africa. Fun Fun "Living In Japan" says it's the 12" version but it's actually the album version, but it's nice to see a track of theirs other than "Happy Station" included on a compilation for once. Aleph's storming Hi-NRG classic "Fly To Me" is good to see here, plus tracks from Radiorama, Lian Ross, Digital Emotion, Alan Barry, Brian Ice - all great tracks. There isn't a bad track on this whole collection actually. Vanessa's "Upside Down (Dizzy Does It Make Me)" says Original 12" Mix but actually plays the Class-X Razormaid DJ Mix, although it's just great to get this fantastic slice of cheese on CD at all. Lastly, anyone familiar with the excellent Albert One may be interested to know that the Jock Hattle Band track here is Albert One under another name.

Here is a track list:

CD1:
Taco - Puttin' On The Ritz (Original 12" Mix)
Radiorama - Hey Hey (Original 12" Mix)
Lian Ross - Say You'll Never (Original 12" Mix)
Loco Loco - Hey Mr DJ (Original 12" Mix)
Rose Laurens - Africa (Voodoo Master) (Original 12" Mix)
Silver Pozzoli - Around My Dream (Original 12" Mix)
Baltimora - Tarzan Boy (Original 12" Mix)
Diviacchi- Waiting For Heaven (Original 12" Mix)
Jock Hattle Band - To Be Or Not To Be (Original 12" Mix)
Aleph - Fly To Me (RMX)
Digital Emotion - Go Go Yellow Screen (Original 12" Mix)

CD2:
Jago - I'm Going To Go (Original 12" Mix)
Cleo - Go Go Dynamo (Original 12" Mix)
Swan - Don't Talk About It (Original 12" Mix)
Lee Marrow - Mr Fantasy (Original 12" Mix)
Fancy - Bolero (Hold Me In Your Arms Again) (Original 12" Mix)
Brian Ice - Talking To The Night (Original 12" Mix)
Lili & Sussie - Oh Mama (Original 12" Mix)
Fun Fun - Living In Japan (says Original 12" Mix but actually plays the album version)
Alan Barry - Tell Me The Reason (Original 12" Mix)
Sweet Connection - Need Your Passion (Original 12" Mix)
Vanessa - Upside Down (Dizzy Does It Make Me) (says Original 12" Mix but actually plays the Class-X Razormaid DJ Mix)

X Ray Connection - Get Ready (Original 12" Mix)

5.0 out of 5 stars Italo heaven! 22 Nov 2012
Format:Audio CD
The Disco Discharge series should be applauded for its inclusion of Italo-Disco to its rightful place in the history of Disco/dance music.

This CD collection includes some of the very best examples of the genre - in particular Silver Pozzoli's "Around My Dream", which for me evokes the timeless beauty of 8-track Italo excellence - just haunting and melodic.

Certainly i'm nostalgic as a fan of this music - having owned all the ZYX Best of Italo albums back in the day, plus loads of other compilations and 12" singles. Italo-Disco was also popular in gay clubs in the UK (special mention to The Powerhouse in B'ham which championed Italo every Thurs back in the mid-80's) - hence its evolution/merger with Hi NRG into Eurobeat.
The vocals, accents and lyrics in Italo-Disco are often cheesy, but this was part of the charm of the genre.

We also heard them when on holiday each summer in Spain etc, so these songs sometimes crossed over each September in the UK (such as "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora).

Now if only someone would re-release on CD my favourite ever Italo album- "Have Fun" by Fun Fun.....
