Book Description

Mar 1998
In our age of instant gratification and if-it-feels-good-do-it attitudes, self-discipline is hardly a popular notion. Former missionary and beloved author Elisabeth Elliot offers her understanding of discipline and its value for modern people. Now repackaged for the next generation of Christians, Discipline: The Glad Surrender shows readers how to - discipline the mind, body, possessions, time, and feelings-overcome anxiety-change poor habits and attitudes-trust God in times of trial and hardship-let Christ have control in all areas of life Elliot masterfully and gently takes readers through Scripture, personal stories, and lovely observations of the world around her in order to help them discover the understanding that our fulfillment as human beings depends on our answer to God's call to obedience.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book challenged and changed my life 22 Sep 2000
By S. Ackerman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book cuts right to the chase for the Christian. Elliot puts forth the truth with a punch. I was personally challenged on how I live my life. As I read and reread this book it focused me on what is really important and that changed my life for the better. I refer to this book often and quote it more times than I can count. Excellent investment for any Christian wanting to grow and mature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discipline: The Glad Surrender 25 Mar 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is a really good book where Elisabeth Elliot draws from her own experience in surrendering to God. She speaks about how surrendering to discipline is something that will make life better rather than giving it all up. And like all of Elliot's books, it is incredibly well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discipline, the Glad Surrender 11 Mar 2005
By Liisa R. Straub - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I'm an avid Elisabeth Elliot reader and stumbled upon this classic while purchasing another one of her books.

Once again, Elliot goes back to the basics; outlining through her own experience and scripture what a disciplined life should look like. Her practicality and ability to share the truth in a clear and concise way are once again the foundation of her writing. It was refreshing and challenging to be reminded that a disciplined life doesn't happen spontaneously, but is rather a slow and painful process that requires daily dying to self and living for God. Elliot outlines chapter by chapter the quadrants of life and the benefits of being disciplined in each respective area. If you want to be challenged to see the eternal perspective in everyday life, this book is a must read!
