Product Description

Product Description

The highly-anticipated debut album from Tinie Tempah.

Recorded over 11 months in North London, South London and Sweden, the album encompasses gritty grime, tempo-shifting drum and bass, and dark and brooding pop. It includes his breakthrough single, "Pass Out".

"Simply Unstoppable" underscores Tinie's grime roots. Swedish House Mafia have created a dancefloor anthem in the form of "Miami 2 Ibiza", while Naughty Boy delivers a deliciously brooding pop number "Let Go", featuring Emile Sande. One of Tinie's personal favourites, the laidback "Snap", talks about chronicling life through photographs. "Wonderman" features Ellie Goulding and is produced by Labrinth.

BBC Review

Disc-Overy certainly isn’t short on variation or big-name guests, but the drive for kudos ends up pushing Tinie Tempah into the sidelines. It’s a super-confident debut breadth-wise, but a misfire in terms of depth – it stretches too far and ends up light on substance and personality.

The problem stems from the album’s assortment of current-day references, and the desire to tick so many genre-boxes, be it ska, RnB, grime, big pop ballads, reggae or clichéd heavy rock. It’s an unnecessary overcompensation too, as there’s a charming core left standing tall and proud, a super-confident character brimming with arrogance.

See, when Tinie Tempah’s debut works, it really flies; he’s perfectly capable of hitting the pop-crossover spots where so many others have fallen short. He retains an authentic, turbo-charged grime sound on Simply Unstoppable while spitting oh-so-quotable rhymes: "I’m about to clean up like a Dyson / I like to say it how it is like Simon / I like the taste of alcohol, I got wine gums". On one track, he provides a summary of just how Dizzee Rascal has infiltrated the mainstream – a riposte to Roll Deep’s 2005 album In at the Deep End, whose tongue was lodged too firmly into its cheek.

Disc-Overy, however, suffers from too-samey delivery – Tempah’s at his best when projecting his rhymes at a rapid rate, jabbing words awkwardly in conflict with the beats. On album opener Intro and Let Go, his flow lacks ambition and punch, but the ska-influenced Snap is the worst offender, starting and ending with no trace of identity. Tempah’s verses on Wonderman, featuring Ellie Goulding, feel like mere lead-ups to the chorus – which can’t be right if he’s billed as the song’s star.

That’s all forgotten on tracks as glossily produced as Miami 2 Ibiza, where repetitive dance beats overpower the anonymity elsewhere. And Just a Little sees the 21-year-old in the lovelorn ex guise, rhyming "Veuve Clicquot" with "ego" and suddenly becoming recognisable. He’s particularly strong on hit single Pass Out, playing on his overactive narrative – there’s even mirth, as Tempah famously rhymes "Concorde" with "Scunthorpe".

This album feels too consciously targeted at people who mightn’t come to it, and instead of playing on Tempah’s charisma, rather plays on personality-type. And while a debut of 13 Friskys would be exhausting, Disc-Overy just doesn’t capitalise on the south Londoner’s undeniable energy and charm.

One of the best urban creations in decades.
Moody atmospheric 'Pass Out' to anthemic masterpiece
'Written In The Stars' and the other songs are great
as well.
I strongly recommend this album for all music lovers
to put in their collection because it will sound just
as good 10 or 20 years from now.
It strikes a cord with all ages when Tinie sings
"everyone's a kid that no-one cares about, we got to
keep screaming until they here us out!"
Excellent for everyone who's not bothered by profanity,
but parents of younger children should be wary.

The CD "Discovery" is Tinie Tempah's best work. The reason why this CD is great is because of all the different collaborations; he worked with Labrinth, Range, Eric Turner and loads more. There are 13 tracks and many of them were hits like "Pass Out" and "Frisky". The song "Pass Out" is my favourite because it has a variation of slow and fast parts to the song, it also rhymes as well. The worst song in my opinion is "Obsession" because it is really repetitive and also quite slow all the way through the song. The main problem with this cd is the swearing - in most of his songs. This is a problem because if kids were listening to it, they could start saying those words at such young ages. Overall, I think the CD is great and I would definitely get if you are into this kind of music.

The music is absolutely brilliant! It includes the most popular songs frisky, pass out and written in the stars which are all fantastic songs. My brother(11)recently bought this CD because he really liked it but there was one draw back. Our parents listened to it and found out it had a lot of swearing so they then banned it from him so he could not download it to his Ipod. Therefore he is disappointed. I hope there is to be an album without the swearing because Tinie Tempah is a very good artist and i`m sure a lot of other CHILDREN agree. Its great but its just that there is swearing in every song and its not good for kids.

Absolutely brilliant!!! Not my usual style of music but Tinie is so talented he's managed to win me over. I can't wait to see him in concert coz if it's half as good as his album, then that is going to be a concert not to be missed. I love Tinie Tempah!!!

Probably the best uk album of 2010. Cant fault it, FRISKY is the best song produced by a UK artist in my opinion. Everyone will like this album form grime fans all the way to pop music fans. Keep up the good work MR Tempah

I bought this cd on the strength of 'Pass Out', and I'm SO glad I did! Playing the cd up nice and loud in my car on the way home, I found myself smiling in amazement at how exciting, clever and well-produced this music is. I agree with another reviewer that a lot of the lyrics are pretty rubbish, so I tend to not listen to the words and just enjoy the fantastic musical backing. There is a lot of swearing, which I don't mind, but parents should be aware that some tracks won't be appropriate for childrens' ears - a real shame! The only weaker track, in my opinion, is 'Obsession', but all other 12 tracks are just brilliant! I can't recommend this cd highly enough.

I have had this album for a few years now and it still sounds just as great as it did back then. Brilliant music, I would personally recommend this to everyone.

My absolute favourites on this album would have to be; Intro, Simply Unstoppable, Wonderman, Written in the Stars, Miami 2 Ibiza and Pass Out. As you can see I had to list a lot there but that's because the songs on this album are just so good! There's a lot of collaborations on here too with other great artists.

A masterpiece as always from Tinie Tempah! Super! 10/10
