Im very happy with this book, its not the type i think one would read cover to cover but its got great info to reference in the area of disasters.
I will say the CD is not good at all, i was hoping for some great bits of templates etc but found it lacking in content, but the book made up for it in the end.
The text is a good size not too small so easy to highlight etc.
I would say this book is a good starting point in the area of disasters and business continuity, the author give clear and easy to understand info, and draws your attention to main points etc
also the author dose not refrence his work, for someone that is studing in this area this may matter to you but for everyone else this point dose not matter i think!

As you can veiw the table of info im not going to go in to all of that as you can read up on that your self, im just going to end by pointing out this is a big enough book and even though text is not that small its packted with great info and well worth a place on your shelf.

Not a HandBook 15 Nov. 2005
By Firosh C. Ummer - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Don't get carried away by the title descriptions "Hand book" and "step-by-step plan". If anyone is buying this book with an intention of developing a BCP/DR plan, implementing and testing it they will be disappointed. This book only helps to get an overview of BC/DR planning. I couldn't find anything readily usable in the companion CD. It contains a bunch of documents with one page and one table in it. You wouldn't find anything important and useful such as sample BC/DR plan, emergency response procedure and flow diagram.

Great Handbook. Extremely helpful for developing a DR plan. 11 Jan. 2006
By Aaron M. Olney - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I found the book extremely valuable in getting a disaster recovery plan developed. The book was very helpful in not only showing step-by-step HOW to put together our plan, but also did a great job in explaining WHY something should be in the plan. It also focused on the entire business, not just on technology as some other books on the subject do.

A great textbook 15 Jun. 2012
By Thomas M. Magee - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
This is a textbook on the subject of disaster recovery. As with all textbooks they provide valuable information. You wouldn't want a surgeon that didn't use one. However there is another side. As with your old college textbooks it is sort of boring to read. A few more real world stories might have sparked things up.

This is a book for the surgeons of the disaster recovery field. This field is a field growing in importance over the past 10 years or so. More and more companies are developing, expanding, or enhancing their disaster recovery programs, departments, and policies. This need is reinforced by the daily newspapers that talk about this disaster or that disaster. That statistics say that if you don't bounce back from these common daily disasters within at least 30 days you don't come back. That has reinforced the urgency of the program. If that fact is burned into your head then this book is for you.

This urgency I am sure has put people into difficult circumstances. Someone misses a meeting and they find themselves the head of their company's disaster recovery program. This is the book for you then. This book is very comprehensive. It covers things most books forget. Any person that just reads the book will be ahead of 70% of people in the field. The book is that good. It gives you that critical information you need to at least keep your head above water. The book doesn't write the plan for you but it lays out a map. The book covers the basics. It sort of lays out a checklist of things to remember. The big things are sort of easy like put out the fire. The book explains the secondary things that can ruin your day if they go wrong. These are the things like human resources, power distribution, computers, data backup, alternate sites, and scores of other things.

So if your work is in disaster recovery this book is for you.

Easy to read and very insightfull 2 Jan. 2005
By Jason S - Published on

This book reminds me what effects an extended outage can have. I was able to find at least one item in every chapter of this book that I could easily and cheaply implement, that not only saved me money, but allowed me to better ensure my business will continue to function in the event of serious unplanned outage.

A great textbook for a Business Continuity Planning course. 8 April 2014
By Louis W. Bruneau - Published on
Format: Hardcover
I have been using this book as a textbook in my Business Continuity Planning course since the second edition was released. It's like a cookbook; step-by-step just as advertised. The students seem to like it better than most textbooks and usually don't sell it back to the bookstore.
I recommend the book to anyone that is trying to figure out what to do and how to do it in a medium size business. It's probably overkill in a small organization and not enough for a large or multinational operation.
