Who is the true master of disaster?

Earthlings: prepare for the shock of your lives!

Global warming . . . reversed.

The energy crisis . . . over.

The greatest problem on Earth . . . solved.

Voltarian Royal Officer of the Fleet, Jettero Heller, has it all figured out. And he’s devised a daring and ingenious plan to make it all happen . . . if he lives to see the day.

Saving the world is never easy, and for Heller, it turns out to be a tricky—and risky—business.

He’ll have to blast a gang of space pirates in a lethal laser firefight. He’ll have to find a way to capture and control a black hole. He’ll have to undertake a perilous journey to Saturn and back and transport a titanic chunk of ice across the solar system.

Then comes the hard part . . . because Heller is headed back to Voltar, where he’s about to uncover the identity of the powerful figure behind the conspiracy to end all conspiracies. He’s facing his deadliest nemesis yet, and before the intergalactic battle is over, the entire mission could end in DISASTER.

“Features rich inventiveness, brisk pacing and a large cast of appealing characters.” —BOOKLIST

From the Publisher

With Mission Earth, L. Ron Hubbard created an unsurpassed
masterpiece of satire, social commentary and rousing intergalactic
adventure--full of biting insights about the condition of this planet, its
people and the institutions that make it the way it is. Mission Earth, an
unheard-of 1.2-million word novel in ten volumes, is a monumental
achievement by any literary standard.
Mission Earth has an entire galaxy for its backdrop, though the main action
occurs on Earth and the planet Voltar. The Voltarian Grand Council has
become convinced that it must send a mission to prevent Earth from
destroying itself--thus allowing the Voltar Confederacy to proceed on its
long-standing invasion plan and timetable to conquer a planet they regard
as an important future way-stop on the main invasion route toward the
center of the galaxy.
The mission is assigned to a clandestine agent, Fleet Combat Engineer
Jettero Heller. Soon after arriving on Earth, he heads to New York City
where he is determined to get to the bottom of what is causing Earth to
self-destruct, unaware that his every move is being tracked and that
powerful forces on Voltar want his mission to fail.

More About the Author

Author, humanitarian and Founder of Dianetics and Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard is one of the most acclaimed figures of the modern age.

In a writing career spanning more than half a century, he was both a leading light of American fiction and the author of more than 35 million words of nonfiction--the single most embracive statement on the human mind and spirit, providing the only road to total spiritual freedom.

To date, more than 250 million copies of his works are in circulation worldwide, in 71 languages. All told, those works comprise over 3,000 recorded lectures and some 5,000 writings, including nineteen New York Times bestsellers.

Accordingly, and in testament to the magnitude of his literary legacy, there are his four Guinness World Records: most published author, most translated author, the author with the most audiobook titles and the single most translated non-religious work.

Yet the essence of L. Ron Hubbard's legacy is perhaps best expressed in his simple declaration:

"I like to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see a person free himself of the shadows which darken his days.

"These shadows look so thick to him and weigh him down so that when he finds they are shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again in the sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted as he is."

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read 24 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is part of a ten volume serial.
On it's own it's good, if you like science fiction.
If you read the complete work, it's better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling fast action sci-fi 29 Jun 2002
Format:Paperback
Hubbard successfully manages to merge two different writing styles in this episode of the Mission Earth thriller. It's fast moving action all the way as the reader is nearly taken right to the end of the plot before being hauled back for yet more twists and turns. Great sci-fi writing, yet strangely close to reality.
