I am the wrong side of 50 and it was my son who introduced me to this band when all my attempts to find a new source of enjoyable music (together with my faith in old school rock and rollers)had failed. He liked Hybrids formative compositions which are used in gaming and films scores and he lent me Soundsystem. When this was auditioned on my high end hi fi, I was immediately taken in by the wide range of what can only be called techno noises intermingled with soaring film score style electrical and orchestral sounds with some pretty amazing sub base grunts. A few downloads later (!), we had the majority of the Hybrid back catalogue and a new musical era has begun for me.
Between the releases of Sounsystem and Disappear Here, the duo signed up the female vocalist, Charlotte James. Her vocals and songwriting talents figure significantly in this albumn and is, for me, the magic that was missing from the band's earlier releases.
You get 2 CD's. The first is 12 songs (approx 1 hour duration total) and, in my humble opinion, there isn't a bad one amongst them. The highlight is the track 'Break my Soul' which is the most 'complete' songs I have heard in years. The second disc, approx 45 mins. long, contains rearrangements of some of the tracks on disc 1. Some might consider this a waste of money but the remixes, generally, have their 'driving beats' removed which allows for a bit of late night play!
Altogether, I think this albumn is first rate... and there aren't many that I can say that about, let alone keep playing and enjoying month after month.
