Creepy, sensual, sophisticated and poetic; Anita sings of the mystery of human being surrounded by an intricate collage of sounds. I stumbled upon this by accident, but I feel as if I discovered a jewel.

this is a brilliant compilation of anitas work from as early as birthday party to the early 90's. Not all songs are good, but most are fantastic.

A largely disappointing disc by one-time Nick Cave collaborator (the album's produced by one of the Bad Seeds). The covers of "Lost in Music" and "Sexual Healing" (no joke!) are fun, sinister and gothy, but all in all Anita Lane seems to be trying too hard to be Lydia Lunch, with a little-girl voice singing sinister but poorly written lyrics. Less than moving, tho' the covers provide some mock-Goth novelty value. The best original track on here is "Groovy Guru". Maybe Bad Seeds completists would enjoy this one?

Dark, Sultry Beauty 14 Jan. 2003
By Nathan Hobby - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Anita Lane was Nick Cave's muse from when he was still at school until the heady early days of the Bad Seeds. She co-wrote Her To Eternity and Kindness of Strangers, amongst others.
This collection of her (all too few) recordings until 1995 is full of seduction, dark fairy lands, and a guilty, innocent girl who enchants with her beauty and her voice. The album is diverse, from a sultry cover of 'Sexual Healing' to Birthday Party backed postpunk 'Fullness of His Coming'. Binding it together is persistent strangeness.
The highlight tracks are the spookily poetic 'Blume' and 'Subterrenean World', and the upbeat disco cover 'Lost In Music'.
Anita is underrated and underknown. If you can find a copy of Dirty Pearl, get it.
'For you I will be a sunflower/ Do you hear my enlightening laughter?/ Another reason to cut off an ear/' (Blume)
Influence and Solo, this is a must for any fan of the Muse Label bands. 7 Aug. 2014
By H. Lamar Thomas - Published on Amazon.com

It is always about her collaborations and singles on the Muse label. But she is more than an influence and muse, solo artist and duets, she is one of those Artists who has always been there but many miss out on who she is in her own right as a recording artist. Highly recommended releases, Dirty Pearl and Sex O'Clock. They will complete your Nick Cave and Einsturzende Neubauten world of music. Very direct voice. Subterranean World will haunt you in the best of ways.

LOve it! 26 Feb. 2009
By CRAZOTOLOGY - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Hard to explain Anita Lane...dark, slow-rock, romantic, haunting, pretty, unusual. Anita Lane (formerly of the birthday party and nick cave and the bad seeds) and Mick Harvey (same) make a great little album that is utterly intoxicating in it's dark beauty.
