"Dirty jobs" found the absolutely PERFECT man for THIS job. Mike Rowe has to be one of the most attune improvisational comedians I have ever had the honor of watching. "Dirty jobs" is an unavoidably informative and (at many times) hilarious show, making it one of the best on television today. Not only is "Dirty jobs" a comedic goldmine, but it is also an educational one. How many other shows can possibly claim this pedigree?
I originally began watching this show out of morbid curiosity because the professions looked absolutely nightmarishly dangerous/grimy/miserable, but amidst all of the drawbacks, was Mike Rowe. Rowe is consistently on-call at any moment with an inciteful comment, a timely witticism, or even just a "look" that says it all. But, it goes much further than just his sense of timing/humor.
Mike Rowe is a perfect test case in "making the best of things." Quite often, Mike is confronted with completely stoic, humorless supervisors and workers who wouldn't know a witty comment if it sank its teeth into them. But, that is part of Mike's charm: he often plays his comments off of the stone-face in question. The end result is a thoroughly enjoyable and informative show that has never failed to educate and entertain me and keep me clamoring for the next season's DVD release.
