A deliciously dirty collection of 4 well,... dirty (filthy actually)ditties from the mad and sometimes chaotic Spankers. Not to be played in front of the in laws. On the other hand, why not ? Cheer them up !!

I cant belive that no one has reviewed this cd yet. I first heard of the street spankers on mancows morning mad house, and have loved them ever since. Gor-don, loves them too, and so should you! I whistle "the scrotum song" constantly, and you will too once you hear it. It may be the finest song ever recorded by humans. Ever! Its my wrinkly crinkly bag of skin. Thats all that needs to be said.

If you can't have a good time listening to this CD, you don't know how to have fun. Very ribald, raunchy, and thoroughly rough around the edges, with the exception of the excellent singing and harmony, if you are uptight, square, and easily shocked by foul language or off-color humor, don't buy this. Everyone else, it is a great sing-a-long, but not the kind with Mitch Miller. That is dating me. If you don't know who Mitch Miller is, you aren't old enough to be listening to this!!

I rarely write a review just to be negative about a release, but when I think people's dollars (or other exchange) are better spent elsewhere, I have to speak out.
To be quickly clear, I lived in Austin for about all of the 1990s, and saw the Spankers many times from their original weeks of existence all the way until last March on their "Farewell Tour" at Knuckleheads in Kansas City. I actually knew Stan personally, and love the band overall. I've talked to Christina and other members off and on for many years before/after their shows. I have nothing personal against the band at all. This particular CD is NOT good. It is an unfortunate mistake that needs to be remedied by going out of print and all existing copies becoming skeet. This band IS capable of writing & performing great songs but none are among this collection. The titles of the songs are actually better than the songs themselves. The songs are simply not much fun, not good sound on all, and "The Scrotum Song" becomes a Magnum Opus of wretchedness clocking in over 12 minutes long. If you want to explore some of the dirtier side of the band, the CD of "Nasty Novelties" is far superior to this release. And of course some dirty ditties are spread throughout most recordings of this band, unless on purpose (like "Mommy Says No"). If you liked much of Frank Zappa's worst humor like "Wet T-Shirt Night", and other really stupid/bad humor songs, then this might be for you. I like much of Frank's work, but most of you will know what I mean. All other mainstream Spankers CDs are superior to this one. Save your money. |
