The sinuous world of 1950s Cuban dance halls provides the setting for Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, a "re-imagining" that shares with the original movie a deep love of sexy young people pressed tightly together on the dance floor. Fresh from New England, bookish and lovely Katey (Romola Garai, adorable in the charming but little-seen I Capture the Castle) meets a fiery young busboy named Javier (Diego Luna, Y Tu Mama Tambien) at a snooty hotel. Before you can say Tito Puente, the two have found a common language in the sensual swaying of their limbs, despite the resistance of Katey's mother (Sela Ward). It's all ridiculous, of course--the dialogue is atrocious, the characters tortilla-thin, and the politics embarrassing--but that's hardly the point. Luna is dreamy, there's lots of sweaty dancing, and Patrick Swayze makes an appearance--what more can you ask from a movie called Dirty Dancing? --Bret Fetzer

Wow!!!
My parents bought me this in June for my birthday, i put it in the DVD rack expecting to watch it someday, laugh at it then never watch it again!
So, i thought i would see what amazon customers thought of it, and i was suprised to see most reviews had 5 or 4 stars. i put the DVD in and was in absolute shock that the film was sooooo brill!!!
It could never replace the original as i love that but i loved this just as much. the dancing was fabulous and sexy, the music was brilliant. i have new found respect for Shakira's - Hips Dont Lie, as the original is in this film and goes so well with it. Also i was pleasantly suprised to see Patrick Swayze in the film, a great addition. And the singer Mya too, i loved that bit in the film.
I always have to like the leading man to get into a film properly, and i didnt think i would with this one, but throught the film, Javier grew on me, and he was very handsome.
One problem was that i thought the film would be longer, it's only 1hr18mins and i wanted at least another 30 mins! but apart from that, it was a delicious, must see film. Go buy it now!

I wasn't expecting much from this film having heard so many bad reviews but I actually really enjoyed it! Ignore the sceptics who say it isn't as good as the original: it's different and as much as I love the first film, let's not get snobbish about it, it's just good cheesy fun, which this is film is as well. Good for a girlie night in - just like the first one, and the two leads work really well together, possibly, shock horror, even better than Patrick and Jennifer!! Watch it and give it a chance!

A fantastic, sexy film with pure energy and excitement that cannot be rivaled. The dancing is brilliant with a wonderful cuban latin american influence. The first dirty dancing film was a classic that no other could match up to, but this film deserves its merits as a modern wonder and fantastic film. Surely a film to inspire anybody to start dancing!

My 12yrs and 9yrs old girls love this movie.
Both my girls enjoyed watching this movie. Have not necessary got many 'wow' dance scenes but a good film plot.
