5.0 out of 5 stars Stop comparing this to the original!!! 20 Jan 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This cd is fab. I think that people have got to stop comparing this with the original dirty dancing soundtrack. The original is a classic. The two films are totaly different as are the soundtracks. If you like fun latino beats you'll love this collection of tunes. 5/5, that's all i have to say!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me want to mambo 3 Oct 2006
Format:Audio CD
First off, the fact that the film was set in 1950s revolutionary Cuba should alert any potential buyers that: NO, THIS IS NOT LIKE THE ORIGINAL. THIS IS NOT TRYING TO BE THE ORIGINAL. The Havana Nights soundtrack is an amazing CD, full of exciting cuban/spanish music mixed with modern influences. You cannot listen to this CD and not want to dance, the latino flavour gets even the most reluctant dancer to their feet. A great CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, if a litttle short! 3 Dec 2004
Format:Audio CD
First of all, if you're expecting this to be anything like the original dirty dancing soundtrack, then you might well be dissapointed. Secondly, with only 12 tracks, this isnt a very varied soundtrack, but the latino beats that it does have certainly dont dissapoint. Here are my ratings of each individual song:
1.Wyclef Jean - Dance Like This: 4.5/5 (perfect wyclef track to start off this energy fuelled soundtrack!!)
2.Black Eyed Peas - Dirty Dancing: 5/5 (another brilliant track, perfect for dirty dancing with a great latino beat)
3.Yerba Buena - Guajira (I Love U 2 Much): 4.5/5(wicked spanish/english latino hip-hop track, great for dirty dancing again)
4.Jazze Pha (feat. Monica) - Can I Walk By: 4/5 (a nice hip hop track, similar to the previous one but has a faster beat)
5.Santana (feat. Jorge Moreno) - Satellite: 4/5 (the usual santana style track with a good beat - not really a 'dirty dancing'track though)
6.Christina Aguilera - El Beso Del Final: 2.5/5 (slow spanish tune from aguilera - i just personally dont like her tracks but if you do then you'll like it a lot more than me)
7.Orishas (feat. Heather Headley) - Represent, Cuba: 5/5 (back to the perfect 'dirty dancing' beats - this one's a winner!)
8.Mya - Do You Only Wanna Dance: 3/5 - (not bad, but not great track - though its great in getting you into a dancing mood)
9.Shawn Kane - You Send Me: 3/5- (probably the slowest track on the soundtrack, but one which fans of the original might enjoy)
10.Aterciopelados - El Estuche: 3/5 (nice, slow, spanish/latino tune)
11.Julio Daivel Big Band conducted by Cucco Peña - Do You Only Wanna Dance: 4/5 (instrumental track but great to dance to, perfect for latino lovers)
12.Santana (feat. Jorge Moreno) - Satellite (Spanish Version - Nave Espacial) (Bonus Track): 2/5 (not quite as good as the original version and not that great for dancing)
average: 3.7

this is so different to the Patrick Swazye crap...

The artists on this album are real musicians.
The film was set in pre-revolution Cuba.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good salsa CD 17 Aug 2005
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think the movie was to interesting, however this soundtrack has a lot of good latino songs. The songs are not your average Salsa songs, but has a more popular twist to them. As a Salsa-dancer I find it inspiring.
I would recomend this CD for people that want latino music that most people can listen to and enjoy. The songs "Dance like this" and "Represent, Cuba" are particularly fun dancing songs, not just for Salsa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a sequal 18 Feb 2009
By Rin
Format:Audio CD
It should be made clear the the film is not a sequal or remake of the original film. It is a totally different concept based of the life of the coreographer. The soundtrack captures the flavour of the film and period in Cuban history perfectly with some of the colaberations bringing a new and contemporary twist to the style (Black Eyed Peas). Highly recommend for those who have seen the film, like salsa music or an upbeat dance album!
For the price that it is you really should just get it, I guarantee you will like at least one of the tracks!
