From the Back Cover

Bob Saget, the decidedly irreverent stand-up comedian and beloved TV star, delivers uproarious, uncensored, and heartfelt stories from a life in entertainment and beyond

Millions of viewers know and love Bob Saget from his role as the sweetly neurotic father on the smash hit Full House, and as the charming wisecracking host of America's Funniest Home Videos. And then there are the legions of fans who can't get enough of his scatological, out-of-his-mind stand-up routines, comedy specials, and outrageously profane performances in such shows as HBO's Entourage and the hit documentary The Aristocrats. In his bold and wildly entertaining publishing debut, Bob continues to embrace his dark side and gives readers the book they have long been waiting for—hilarious and often dirty yet warm and disarmingly sincere.

Bob talks about the connection between humor and pain, offering insights into his own life, including the deaths of his beloved sisters. He pays homage to the people who shaped and inspired him: his mom, Dolly; his father, Ben (the comedy influence who instilled his love of "sick silliness"); and the teacher who told him, "You need to make people laugh," as well as legendary comedians such as Richard Pryor, David Letterman, Billy Crystal, and Robin Williams.

Bob believes there's a time and a place for filth and immature humor—and for gentle family comedy. Dirty Daddy is packed with both, from his never-before-heard stories of what really went on behind the scenes of two of the most successful family shows of all times, with costars like John Stamos, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Ashley Olsen, to his liberating experience in The Aristocrats, his Comedy Central roast, and his role of playing an extreme version of himself on Entourage. Bob opens up about his career, his reputation for sick humor, his pride and love for Full House, and how he's come to terms with the fame of being DT—"Danny Tanner." Throughout, he shares tales of close friends and colleagues like Rodney Dangerfield and Don Rickles, and recalls his experiences with show business legends, including Johnny Carson and George Carlin.

Told with his highly original blend of silliness, vulgarity, wit, and heart, Dirty Daddy reveals Bob Saget as never before—a man who loves being funny and making people laugh above all else.

It's a wonderful read. Whether you are a fan of this man's work, or know nothing of his working resume to date, but love Comedy, good stories with excellent delivery and given heart felt opinions with sharp as a tac rebuttle, this book is certainly for your eyes and ears. It's a personal story of a man's experience in the world of Stand Up Comedy, Family viewing television, crafted film making and passion for family, friends (famous or unknown), movies and of course hazardously heated testicles. Bare with the thousands of segue-ways they all hold wisdom and bladder breaking laughs. Most of all the experience, understanding and philosophical truth of Death is sincere and warmly comforting. A read for all over the age of 15yrs. Or those few Buddha like beings aged 9-12yrs.

Bob Saget - A man for all reasons.

I read this immediately after Jodie Sweetin's autobiography and I just didn't feel the same candour from him. He jokes around a lot, giving a good flavour of his personality, but I get the feeling he's hiding a lot about the Full House era. I sense there was a lot more sex, drugs and booze going on in his life at that time, but he gives little away. Sometimes he seems unsure of his audience; adults, or rerun-viewing children?

His comedy does not translate well to the written word. Without his timing, pace, and delivery, this fragmented stream of consciousness narrative is just annoying. Watch him on YouTube and give the book a pass.

A wonderful look at the life of a great comedian. I grew up knowing the vanilla side, appreciating the characters he played. It's nice to be able to know the more personal and real side of this man. I've very much enjoyed this book!

Dirty Daddy 18 May 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Bob Saget is best known for his work in “Full House” and America’s Funniest Home Movies” but he is also a standup comedian; and a dirty one at that. I have watched both television shows and enjoyed them, but have never seen him perform standup. I don’t know if he is funny, but I can tell you that it doesn’t translate well on paper. In his book his jokes are juvenile and not at all worth a chuckle.

This book is a mish-mash concoction of his life that doesn’t evenly flow. He begins with those family members he loved and lost (and it’s that why also). Loves to toss out names of celebrities he’s met and befriended. Writes a lot about his relationships with his daughters and his former co-stars and the importance they are to him. And he tosses some of those crude jokes in there. The book is not funny, not enjoyable and a miss in my eyes.

This guy is messed up!!! 19 Jun. 2014

The book only tells a story here and there.

His humor is mostly not funny. He talks about his daughter being born and offering $1 to anyone who'd like to finger her. Oh wait he's just joking, he'd offer $5. That's just too weird and demented for me. There's a few other times his humor is like that. The rest is all poopy humor and sexual jokes.

Like I said, this doesn't really tell a story. He gave a little glimpse here and there of material but not enough to really pull me in.

Not Funny 22 May 2014

Boring to read - really not funny. Disappointed in content. Jumped around in stories way too much, hard to follow.
