Product Description

Product Description

There was once only one Mafia, now every country seems to have it's own. Until fairly recently gangsters kept to their territories but crime - like every other business - has been quick to take advantage of the global economy. Business, it seems, is good, with over $150 billion laundered each year in Europe alone. London crime firms sell Lebanese heroin provided by Turkish gangs, Columbian cocaine obtained from Nigeria, and crack produced by Jamaican Yardies. Arrangements with the Mafia, the Triads, the Yakuza, the Russian Mafiya and the South American cartels allow a tide of misery to enter the UK through the back door.

Dirty Cash looks at modern organised crime, from the street gangs whose daily business includes drug dealing, prostitution and robbery, through to the gigantic organisations behind it all. The vicious war between crime and law enforcement is raging all around us, and it's a war we can't afford to lose.

From the Back Cover

'(ORGANISED CRIME) IS CREATING MISERABLE VICTIMS OUT OF ITS PROMISES OF A BETTER LIFE AND THE OFTEN DISGUSTING EXPLOITATION OF THE MOST VULNERABLE PEOPLE IN SOCIETY.'

Dirty But Brilliant! 30 Jun 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I bought this on the strength of David Southwell's groundbreaking investigation work on conspiracy theories. Whilst this is a totally straight work with none of his trademark black humour, it does have a lot of his trademark inside knowledge and insight.

Dealing with a sensational subject, but not in a sensationalist manner, I found this a really good read. Sharply written, the passages that have obviously come from his first-hand experiences interviewing major players in the Triads and other mafia gangs are superb - they leap out of the page and really shock you into thinking about the criminal network that surrounds us without most of us ever knowing.

Most titles in this field just seem like tired old hacks writing up press clippings or going through the motions interviewing some mildly notorious gangster - this book comes across as being based on real investigations and real exposing of crime.

Without a doubt, one of the best true crime books I have ever read.
