Dirty Birds is the debut album from Scottish singer-songwriter Kat Flint, born in Barbados and raised by two scientists in the rural microcosm of North-East Scotland, where international oil wealth meets stormy farmland and 5000 year-old stone circles. Part folk, part pop, part something else entirely, the recording of Dirty Birds was entirely fan-funded (through necessity, after label funding fell through). Kat raised several thousand pounds through her internet fanbase, gig audiences, mailing list and word of mouth before a single note had been committed to tape. The dirty birds of the title manifest themselves in many forms pigeons and prostitutes, black crows and bomber jets... There are celebrations and requiems, reprimands, to-do lists and laments for little brothers marching off to war. The release of Dirty Birds comes hot on the heels of two independently released singles Go Faster Stripes and Christopher, You re A Soldier Now which have already won over many new fans including Steve Lamacq, who singled out Kat as the featured artist on his weekly Radio 2 show, and DJ s at BBC 6music, XFM Scotland and countless regional stations. Engineered and produced by fellow folkster/US producer David Peters (former protégé of Dave Fridmann) the album features contributions from the Guardian s "best band you ve never heard of" Revere, 6Music favourites It Hugs Back and KCRW-approved folk-noir songstress Jess Bryant, amongst others.
