A True Classic 28 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I bought this on vinyl when it was first released and when Adam reformed the Ants in the early '80's and their popularity grew I found it hard to convince anyone it was worth buying. "No, it's punk" they cried. Well, time passes and people are eventually sitting up to listen. Don't be left out, buy it now on CD and believe!!!!

When the Ants were having their succesful period in about '81, I bought this album really just to complete my collection of their stuff and to tell the truth, I didn't like it much at the time. It was totally different to the music they were making at that time ( having been recorded 2 years earlier with a totally different line-up ), but after a while it really grew on me. It is a really good, clever album with some excellent songs on it which have stood the test of time. I love " Nine plan failed " and " Never trust a man ( with egg on his face )" the most. The songs are very sparse but very atmospheric. Dave Barbe ( the drummer) stands out on all the songs on this album. He was a very talented drummer who's talents were even more obvious with Bow Wow Wow, but who's rhythms shaped a lot of the songs on this album. It's a pity that this particular line-up only recorded one album together. An underrated classic ! Buy and be pleasantly surprised !

I had Dirk Wears White Sox on vinyl, and now have it on CD, Its certainly totally unlike any other Adam & The Ants album, and in fact not at all like any other album I can think of either. Strangely, although it was the Ants earliest album, it sounds kind of darker, more mature, thoughtful and measured than later albums. Although they are so completely different to this that comparisons are pointless.
The extra tracks from the singles are not be missed , good old early Ants punk roots.

not too bad
this is his early stuff. It does come across like a garage / demoish sound. There are some good stuff, but production is weak. i would suggest only if your an Adam Ant nut.

Bloody Brilliant!
I bought this album when it first came out (I had a crush on Adam after seeing him in the film 'Jubilee') and became an avid fan until The Ants went a bit silly in the mid-80s. Read more
