Book Description

20 Sep 2012 Calla Editions
Hailed by science-fiction doyen Arthur C. Clarke as “pure magic,” Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time debuted in 1992. Now, 20 years later, the magnificent sequel to James Gurney’s bestseller finally returns to print. Enhanced by more than 160 full-color illustrations, The World Beneath follows an intrepid band of Dinotopians — members of a society in which humans and animals peace- fully coexist — as they explore the mysterious depths of an unexplored island. For this 20th Anniversary Edition, Gurney provides new hand-illustrated calligraphy, an Afterword, and a special section of behind-the-scenes studies and maquettes. Also includes a new Foreword by dinosaur paleontologist M. K. Brett-Surman, Ph.D. A Calla Edition, originally published by Scholastic, Inc., New York, 1995

A very well-illustrated book with some extremely majestic, awe-inspiring scenes.
The thought, imagination, careful research and attention to details
breathe life into Dinotopia: The World Beneath. The dinosaur drawings
are clearly worthy of any Natural History museum.

This book is of great quality with colorful artwork, thick paper used for pages, and creative format. I WILL KEEP IT OUT AS A COFFEE TABLE BOOK FOR VISITORS TO ENJOY AS WELL.
4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible artwork, imaginative world building. 19 Sep 2014
By Gabriel W. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
My kids love the imaginative landscapes of Gurney's books. His artwork is seriously incredible, I would venture that he is one of the best artists in any medium alive today. The story itself is passable, nothing extremely innovative where plot and characters are involved, but this is really all about the construction of an imaginary world which is done in exceptional detail and feels like a place you'd want to return to again and again.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great, classic Dinotopia writing 26 Aug 2014
By Gregory Lewanski - Published on Amazon.com

I had this book as a child, and I intend to get another copy, as I cannot find my original. This book is magnificent. Great, classic Dinotopia writing, with incredible visuals presented in very well detailed art. The nature of the story (focusing on... well... the World Beneath) really caught me as a kid, and still is one of the best. I highly recommend it.

I pretty much love anything in the Dinotopia series. It was my favorite series as a child and still is as an adult.
