‘One of the country’s hottest young chefs’ The Times

About the Author

Barry Lewis taught himself to cook step by step, filming the process and posting the videos on his YouTube blog, MyVirginKitchen. The blog became an overnight hit, inspiring thousands of new cooks to pick up the ladle. Before long Barry had been given the seal of approval by his idol, Jamie Oliver, and put his job as a quantity surveyor on hold to follow his dream.

Barry lives in Somerset with his partner Becky and two daughters, Phoebe and Chloe.

My copy arrived this morning and I must say it is a beautiful book.
The photos are fantastic - and some of them even make me want to grab a pinny and crack on myself.
The kids have been nagging me for when it would arrive - and now they are fighting over the first choice of what we are going to make.
The sweet chilli chicken fajitas and Vanilla Ice Cube Tray Rocky Road are currently at the top of their list.

For me personally, the sooner I get to put a whole roast dinner into a Yorkshire pudding and follow it up with the Pity Da Fool Fool - the better. Roll on Sunday lunch.

Good luck with this, Barry - I wish you every success.

Book looks great. Some fab ideas. I've tried a couple of recipes and I'm not so sure. Fish pie recipe states 150g sweet potato for the topping to feed 6 people. I know it's supposed to be a rosti but that's not a lot unless it's 6 kids. Cinnamon swirl asks for almost a whole pot of cinnamon which seemed a lot. Was a bit worried may be too much for my kids. Also did not say what temp and how long to cook them for. Just says until golden. I know that all ovens are different but guidance would be helpful! Not that impressed so far!

Having followed Barry and his youtube escapades, I was delighted to hear of his book launch.

Like his videos, the book doesn't dissapoint. His dedication in appealing to those of us that wouldn't entertain the thought of firing up the oven is fantastic. This book is written in such a fashion that it feels as though Barry is standing beside you on your food journey. Barry does a fine job in breaking down recipes into simple, easy to follow steps.

This is not over the top fancy pants cooking, these are tasty recipes that are achievable by the masses; those of us with busy working lives that want to eat decent food, but haven't got all day to accomplish those culinery delights.

In essence, a great book for those of us that are 'afraid' of the kitchen, Or those lacking in a little direction and motivation.
This book wont cure mageirocophobia and it wont gain you a Michelin star, but it will boost your confidence and give you a sense of achievement.

Most importantly the book is as fun as the guy himself!

Good Times Barry!

This is a fantastic book crammed full of amazing recipes. I can't find a single recipe in this book that I wouldn't want to try.
The book contains some fantastic photos of the food that Barry makes and just looking at them was making my mouth water.

I especially like the 'Barry's Tips' & 'Why not try' sections added to every recipe, these give you helpful hints and additional ideas for amending & altering the recipes to suit your own tastes. I also like the fact that nearly all of the recipes in the book use ingredient that you would normally find in the cupboard - you don't have to go out and spend £££ on weird and wonderful ingredients that you will only use once and then throw in the back of the cupboard or fridge to grow arms and legs!

The book is written with humour & I would recommend it to anyone. Also check out Barry's 'My Virgin Kitchen' page on YouTube.

Barry has certainly inspired me to get in the kitchen & get cooking - I can't wait to try making 'Gert Lush Drunk Chicken Pie' from this book.

What can I say, have made 4 recipes so far and all are delicious and provide great bases for mixing it up down the line. The entire book is done in an entertaining and easy to follow format. From the easy and delicious recipes that are great for after work to the more involved recipes for the weekend, this cookbook is running on all cylinders. I've made a healthy Tuesday night grilled lamb with salad that was amazing that took me 30 mins and got a lot of thumbs up from the table to the more involved dishes (chicken parm) that are amazing and give me a great format to expand my cooking abilities. This is perfect for busy families, young couples, old couples, and really everybody. Cannot say too much about this cookbook (and I own about 30), it is my favorite. Even better, follow it up by checking out his site my virgin kitchen on food tube channel on YouTube to keep getting new recipes.

I could have summed up this book with one simple word: WOW!

However I will do better than that ! Before even getting into the recipes I was grabbed by the fantastic photography and high quality feel of the book, dare I say better than some of the better know chefs books currently filling my shelf?.

The recipes are varied from the very simple that are great for kids to help with to the more advanced ones to get stuck into.

Barry is also also a very approachable and always seems to have time to answer questions on twitter and facebook.

1 very happy customer and very much looking forward to book number 2.
